Here are the complete results from the second free practice session (FP2) at the Canadian Grand Prix, the ninth round of the F1 2024 season at the fan-favourite Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
In the first practice session, Fernando Alonso, driving for Aston Martin, dominated the track by setting the fastest lap time of 1:15.810. This impressive performance allowed him to secure the top position, with a comfortable lead of 0.463 seconds ahead of George Russell from Mercedes. Local favorite Lance Stroll secured the third spot on the leaderboard.
FP2 results from the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who emerged as the victor in the previous Monaco race, secured the fourth position. Notably, he was the sole driver within the top 10 to achieve his fastest lap time using medium tires.
Finishing just ahead of Kevin Magnussen, Daniel Ricciardo secured the fifth position for RB. Lewis Hamilton, Yuki Tsunoda, Alex Albon, and Sergio Perez followed closely behind him.
Max Verstappen, the leader of the World Championship, encountered an ERS problem with his Red Bull RB20, resulting in his exclusion from the top 10 positions.

Finishing behind only Pierre Gasly’s Alpine and McLaren’s Lando Norris, the three-time World Champion concluded the session in 18th place.
After wet conditions caused a delay for the on-track action in FP1, FP2 turned out to be a session of two halves as the first half of the session took place in the dry before the arrival of a mid-session shower.
As the anticipated slippery conditions dominated this weekend, several drivers seized the chance to familiarize themselves with the wet car handling. However, their efforts did not pose a challenge to the quickest lap times recorded at the beginning of the session.
Before entering the qualifying session, the drivers and teams will get another opportunity to fine-tune their cars during FP3 on Saturday.
The race is set to take place on Sunday at 1400, with a duration of 70 laps.
