Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes W15.
Lewis Hamilton pulled a storming lap out of the bag to top the final practice session ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
After facing difficulties on Friday, Max Verstappen of Red Bull made a strong comeback and secured the second position. However, Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu encountered more troubles during the race.
Lewis Hamilton sets daunting benchmark at Canadian Grand Prix.
Zhou caused the red flags to come out for the second time this race weekend, losing control of his Sauber and crashing into the barriers at Turn 1. It happened only five minutes into the session, leaving plenty of time for learning on the dry track. Fortunately, the delay was short, and his fellow drivers were likely relieved.
As the session reached its midpoint, Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin emerged as the leader in the challenging FP2 conditions. Daniel Ricciardo from RB followed closely in second place, trailing by just over three tenths.
But it was Hamilton who delivered that P1 time, in style, his 1:12.549 on the soft tyres putting him 0.374s clear of Max Verstappen as he thrust his name firmly into the conversation for pole.
