During the second practice session in Monte Carlo, Charles Leclerc was determined and focused on his objective.
Here are the complete results from the second practice session in Monte Carlo, ahead of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.
On Friday in Monte Carlo, Charles Leclerc relished a day on his hometown streets, leading the way for Ferrari by setting the fastest time in the second practice session.
Charles Leclerc goes quickest in second practice
Ferrari demonstrated significant improvement in the second practice session, surpassing last year’s qualifying session’s fastest times. Charles Leclerc led the pack with a remarkable time of 1:11.278 on the soft tyre.
Leclerc demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the entire session, consistently outpacing Max Verstappen by nearly half a second on the medium tyre until the switch to the softs.
Monaco GP: Charles Leclerc impressively tops FP2 as Lewis Hamilton stays in the mix
Starting his session on the hard tyre, Verstappen began by expressing his dissatisfaction with severe vibrations, comparing them to the movements of a kangaroo. Consequently, he faced difficulties in maintaining visibility while navigating through certain apexes during the initial half hour.
Leclerc set a new benchmark time in the low 1:11s on the softs, and Hamilton came closest to his impressive performance with a mere 0.188 difference.
In stark contrast to his demeanor at Imola, Fernando Alonso appeared significantly more content with his Aston Martin. He secured a respectable third-place finish, trailing Leclerc by a mere half a second, while Verstappen lagged another half-tenth behind.
In addition to other drivers, Verstappen had a slight contact with the barriers as he entered Portier. Similarly, Esteban Ocon from Alpine and Yuki Tsunoda from RB also made contact with the barriers, but luckily escaped any major consequences. Lance Stroll also brushed the barrier and decided to head to the pits, allowing his team to fix the minor damage on his Aston Martin.
With 15 minutes remaining, Leclerc committed a mistake by overbraking himself into Ste. Devote. Fortunately, he managed to avoid any collision and swiftly spun himself back in the correct direction to continue the race.
