‘All-new 2025 driver line-up’ predicted with Haas confirming ‘serious’ Esteban Ocon talks

Esteban Ocon, the Alpine driver, will be departing from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Haas could have an “all-new” line-up next season after team boss Ayao Komatsu revealed he is “considering seriously” Esteban Ocon with “youth” taking the second seat.

With Nico Hulkenberg joining Sauber, Haas may undergo a complete transformation next season as Kevin Magnussen’s contract, currently under scrutiny, will come to an end.

Esteban Ocon to Haas a ‘very realistic possibility’

Despite the Dane’s assistance in scoring three out of his team-mate’s six points through his strategic maneuvers, his own performance has been lackluster with only one point earned in eight races. Additionally, he has accumulated more penalty points than championship points, leaving him just two points shy of facing a race ban.

Pundits are suggesting that his days are numbered, especially after his collision with Sergio Perez during the Monaco Grand Prix, which also involved his team-mate Hulkenberg.

Haas have several potential candidates that are headlined by three-time Grand Prix winner Carlos Sainz, although Williams seem to be leading the running for his signature, to more recently Alpine’s soon-to-be-former 2021 Hungarian GP winner Ocon.

Last week, it was confirmed by the Frenchman and Alpine that he will be concluding his final season with the Enstone team. Consequently, reports have emerged indicating that Haas is currently the leading candidate to secure the services of the 27-year-old.

According to Brundle, a former F1 driver who has now transitioned into a Sky F1 pundit, this is his belief on what will occur.

“He said that Alpine had announced prior to the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend that Ocon would depart at the conclusion of the season. The decision was made mutually after Ocon caused a crash with teammate Pierre Gasly during the Monaco Grand Prix.”

“Haas is currently in search of a minimum of one fresh driver for the upcoming season, as Nico Hulkenberg has confirmed his move to Sauber and Kevin Magnussen’s contract is nearing its end.”

The British teenager Oliver Bearman has been strongly associated with the team, and Haas boss Ayao Komatsu’s statement in Canada on Friday about seeking a combination of youth and experience added more weight to the rumors of the Ferrari academy driver joining the grid.

Komatsu further stated that discussions are currently being held with Ocon, indicating that the prospect of an entirely fresh 2025 driver roster for the team owned by Americans is highly plausible.

One of only three teams yet to officially confirm either driver for next season, the other two being Alpine and RB, Komatsu revealed during Friday’s press conference in Canada that he wants a mix of experience and youth.

Haas is expected to sign Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman, but they are also looking for an experienced driver like Ocon to join alongside the Briton. An announcement regarding the team’s decision is anticipated in the upcoming weeks.

“Komatsu commented on Haas’ timing, stating that it was not too distant but also not immediate. He suggested a timeframe of a few weeks to months.”

“Our team is maturing and evolving as we continuously strive for improvement, creating a dynamic environment.”

In my opinion, the blend of talented young individuals and seasoned expertise would create a highly thrilling combination, providing us with valuable guidance and insight.

When questioned about Ocon, the Haas team boss mentioned to Sky F1 that Ocon possesses ample expertise. He has tasted victory in races, secured podium finishes, and accumulated numerous points.

“He has gained extensive experience by collaborating with several teams, which aligns perfectly with our requirements. Additionally, it’s worth noting that despite being just 27 years old, he displays remarkable dedication and work ethic. Overall, I am highly impressed with his commitment and work ethic.”

“I’m having conversations with a group of F1 drivers, including experienced individuals and some of the younger ones.”

“He is certainly among the few individuals whom I am seriously contemplating.”
