Christian Horner issues warning to Max Verstappen as F1 dominance rolls on

On the grid, a picture captures Max Verstappen alongside Christian Horner.

Christian Horner has urged Max Verstappen to enjoy being in the moment, with no promises about what Red Bull can give him in the future.

In the 2024 Drivers’ Championship, Verstappen holds the top position, while Red Bull secures a 1-2 in the Constructors’ Championship, placing them at the pinnacle of the standings.

Christian Horner: This is a golden moment for Max Verstappen

Verstappen, currently in his third year of F1 dominance, appears to be heading towards his fourth consecutive championship. The RB20, just like its predecessor RB19, seems to possess the same level of competitiveness that made it the most dominant car in F1’s history last year.

When asked if Verstappen’s consistent victories have become monotonous, even in his home country of the Netherlands, Horner dismissively scoffed, pointing to Verstappen’s impressive record of winning four out of five races this season.

He remarked that one must value success and acknowledged Max as an exceptional talent, stating that it is a truly remarkable moment for him.

As observed with each driver, we know that their time behind the wheel is not eternal. Therefore, I believe it is important for them to embrace and relish the present moment.

“We cannot guarantee that we will provide him with a car like this every year for the next five years, so it is important to make the most of the opportunity while it lasts.”

Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2028, but his future with the Milton Keynes-based team is now less certain than before.

Horner has confidently stated that there is no doubt about Verstappen’s racing plans for the upcoming season. However, Max’s father Jos has dropped a strong suggestion which indicates that the current World Champion is considering a different team for the 2026 season.

Verstappen stated, as reported by RacingNews365.nl, “In my opinion, Max is the suitable choice for now, although I believe everyone desires him.”

While he does possess a speedy vehicle, we must also take into account the future until 2026. Therefore, we are currently adopting a passive approach, remaining composed and observing how events unfold.

Verstappen expressed concern that his son may not receive the necessary support to sustain his achievements at Red Bull, as the team’s chief technical officer, Adrian Newey, is set to depart in early 2025.

“The team is in danger of falling apart. I was afraid of that earlier this year,” Verstappen told Dutch publication De Telegraaf.

Currently, the situation does not align with the crucial requirement of retaining key individuals for internal harmony.

“Newey’s departure and the potential dismissal of Helmut earlier this year does not bode well for the future.”

Helmut Marko, the Red Bull consultant, is not getting bored with Verstappen’s continued dominance in the sport.

“It’s not boring at all,” Marko told De Telegraaf.

When a sportsman’s accomplishments are remarkable, it is essential to acknowledge and genuinely admire them. Most importantly, refrain from dismissing it as dull. It is Max’s well-deserved recognition.
