Esteban Ocon made it clear that he will be racing at the Canadian Grand Prix as he slammed the response to his first-lap crash with Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly in Monaco.

Attempting to overtake Gasly down the inside at Portier, the Alpine drivers collided, resulting in Ocon’s retirement from the race. Despite a public apology from Ocon, his furious Alpine team boss Bruno Famin threatened “consequences”, with a report later emerging that benching Ocon for the next race in Canada was a “serious” consideration.

Esteban Ocon issues heartfelt statement to confirm Canadian GP spot

Ocon, in response to the online “abuse” and “misinformed statements” he has faced since Monaco, has decided to express his thoughts on social media. He assures everyone that he will be participating in Montreal and puts an end to any doubts about his teamwork abilities.

In his statement, he expressed his thoughts on the aftermath of the Monaco Grand Prix. Despite receiving numerous messages of support, he expressed his profound sadness at the overwhelming amount of online abuse and negativity targeting his character, driving, and career.

I have had the privilege to participate in more than 140 grands prix since my debut in 2016, thanks to the unwavering support, dedication, and sacrifices of numerous individuals. Throughout my career, I have consistently demonstrated my toughness as a competitor, just like most drivers, and have encountered my fair share of incidents.

“I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to race alongside highly skilled and seasoned team-mates, such as race winners Daniel [Ricciardo], Checo [Perez], Pierre, and the exceptional double champion, Fernando [Alonso].”

“Being teammates, we frequently commenced races in close proximity, leading to intense battles on the track and occasional collisions.”

Naturally, I have committed genuine errors. We are not automatons, but rather dedicated athletes striving relentlessly every day to fulfill our aspiration of winning races. Formula 1 is a sport that evokes intense emotions and profound passions. I witness and experience this fervor regularly, both during race weekends and through social media platforms… the positive and negative aspects alike.

The inaccurate, hurtful, and damaging statements I have come across online lately regarding my capability to collaborate with a team are filled with misinformation and gross distortions.

F1 2025 driver line-up: Who is already confirmed for the 2025 grid?

Ever since I began my journey in motorsport, I have consistently embraced this sport with a humble, professional, and respectful mindset. These core values have been ingrained in me since a tender age.

“Although every driver pursues personal achievement, it is important to remember that this sport will always prioritize teamwork above all else. Throughout my career, I have consistently adhered to the instructions I have received and strived to achieve the best possible outcome for my team.”

Last Sunday, I assumed accountability for the incident that occurred on lap 1. Although I didn’t finish the race, I am pleased that my team managed to earn a point, considering the challenging beginning we have experienced this season.

I hold a great deal of respect for Pierre both as a teammate and a rival. Our teamwork and professionalism within the team have always been exceptional, and I fully anticipate this positive dynamic to persist in the future.

“In Formula One, there can be no reward without risk, and the race starts are particularly intense. This intensity is amplified in Monaco, where the outcome of the opening lap can greatly influence your final result.”

Ultimately, we are all participants vying for victory, and the intense yet equitable competition that permeates every level is what truly elevates our sport and instills in me a profound adoration for it.

“I eagerly anticipate the competition in Montreal, where I’ll have the pleasure of performing in front of the incredible Canadian fans. Additionally, I am excited about the thrilling prospects that lie ahead.”
