‘Fight to the end’ – Under-fire driver’s vow with F1 future on the line

The Spanish Grand Prix began with a frantic start as the drivers raced towards the opening chicane in a three-wide formation.

Logan Sargeant won’t just hand his Williams race seat over to a rival driver, the American adamant he’ll “fight to the end” to continue in the sport.

Sargeant, who moved up from Formula 2 to Formula 1 last season, appeared to struggle in the premier class, based on his performances.

Scoring a single point in his debut season as his team-mate Alex Albon did the heavy lifting to get Williams to seventh in the Constructors’ Championship, Sargeant was expected to take a step forward this season. He hasn’t, at least not in the points column.

Team boss James Vowles, who is still waiting for the team to achieve success, has been vocal about Williams needing more from their 23-year-old driver. Additionally, he hasn’t been hesitant in publicly expressing his interest in Carlos Sainz.

The three-time Grand Prix champion is currently without a team for the upcoming season after being overlooked by Ferrari in favor of Lewis Hamilton. He is Vowles’ top pick to join Alex Albon, ahead of a shortlist that consists of only “two drivers, plain and simple.”

Number two on the list, although Vowles didn’t name the driver, is reportedly former Williams driver Valtteri Bottas.

If that statement is accurate, then there is no space for Sargeant at the Williams or F1 team.

When questioned about the rumors in Silverstone, he addressed the media, including PlanetF1.com, stating, “I’ve been bombarded with noise from various sources for an indefinite period of time.”

After each day concludes, I consistently arrive at these weekends and exert maximum effort for the entire team, recognizing their hard work and dedication.

“I am present for my own growth and self-improvement. It is important to me to demonstrate my ability to consistently progress and achieve.”

“I am confident in the accurate information I possess, and I am aware that I have performed well this season considering the resources I had. This is what holds the utmost importance to me.”

The American, rumored to be heading to IndyCar, feels that he hasn’t been fairly evaluated in comparison to Albon. Throughout a significant portion of the initial races, both drivers were using different specification cars, with Albon having the advantage of upgrades.

Sargeant expressed, “Given the considerable time it has taken to obtain two cars that are equal, it becomes challenging to accurately assess the progress. However, what I can confidently state is that I am pleased with my driving performance. Unlike last year, I can now proudly affirm my satisfaction with my performance this year.”

As I mentioned before, what matters the most to me is that I am aware of my commendable performance.

“I am aware that I have been driving skillfully throughout the season. Judging from my performance in Suzuka, I take great pride in consistently giving my best even when the car may not always be sufficient to achieve success.”

“I possess the spirit of a warrior. Irrespective of the circumstance, my determination to fight remains unwavering. I will persevere until the very end.”
