Ferrari announce departure of key technical figure with Aston Martin move rumoured

Ferrari has confirmed the departure of their long-serving chassis technical director Enrico Cardile, amid speculation that he will head for Aston Martin.

The 49-year-old, who first joined Ferrari in 2005 as part of their GT Championship projects, moved to their Formula 1 team in 2016 as aerodynamics chief, most recently serving as their technical director chassis area.

However, Cardile’s tenure at Ferrari has reached its conclusion as the team has confirmed his departure. Team principal Fred Vasseur will temporarily take over the role.

According to a statement released by Ferrari, Enrico Cardile is departing from Scuderia Ferrari HP, thereby stepping down from his position as technical director in the chassis area.

Cardile, who has been with Ferrari for nearly twenty years, has submitted his resignation. Consequently, as an interim solution, the team principal, Frederic Vasseur, will assume responsibility for the chassis area effective immediately.

Enrico’s dedication and hard work over the years are sincerely appreciated by everyone at Scuderia Ferrari HP.

According to reports in the Italian media, it has been stated that Cardile is set to join Aston Martin, a rival team. When asked about Cardile’s alleged arrival, an Aston Martin representative told PlanetF1.com that the Aston Martin Aramco F1 team is an enticing project due to Lawrence Stroll’s vision, a cutting-edge Technology Campus, and exciting partnerships with Aramco and Honda.

“We have established connections with numerous prominent individuals from diverse fields within the team, yet there are no official announcements to make at this time.”

After the British Grand Prix, Vasseur spoke to various media outlets, including PlanetF1.com. When asked about the rumors connecting Cardile to Aston Martin, he clarified that he was still with Ferrari for the time being. Now, the true significance of his statement has become apparent.

When asked about Cardile potentially joining Aston Martin, Vasseur responded by saying that if Aston Martin chooses to make an official announcement, he would be supportive. However, currently Cardile is still a part of our organization and his role as the technical director on the chassis side remains unchanged.

Vasseur stated, “This evening, he holds the position of technical director at Ferrari.”

Ferrari sit P2 in the current F1 2024 Championship standings, 71 points behind Red Bull and seven clear of McLaren.
