In 2025, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are set to become teammates at Ferrari.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has given his views on how both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are to work with, having been with both through their junior careers.
When Hamilton swiftly progressed through the junior ranks, Vasseur was serving as the team principal of ART Grand Prix. It was during this time that Hamilton crossed paths with Leclerc at a tender age. Vasseur later went on to manage Leclerc as he took his initial steps into the world of Formula 1, securing a seat at Sauber.
Ferrari boss gives lowdown on both 2025 drivers
In a video interview with French publication L’Equipe where he discusses the drivers in Formula 1 with whom he has worked, Vasseur was effusive in his praise for both Hamilton and Leclerc.
After collaborating with Hamilton during their time in the junior categories, a strong bond was formed which has endured as a lasting friendship. This connection is set to rekindle next season as they both join forces at Ferrari.
Vasseur, who had previously won titles alongside Hamilton, shared insights into his experience with the young driver.
Regarding the current Mercedes driver, he mentioned, “We achieved victory together in F3 and F2 with ART. We have maintained a strong bond, and he holds the unmatched record for F1 wins. He demands the same level of excellence from the team as he does from himself.”
Lewis is among the few individuals who have elevated the standards to an exceptional level and undoubtedly introduced a higher degree of professionalism to Formula 1.

And on Leclerc, Vasseur explained that he has a base understanding with Ferrari’s current driver that stretches back to knowing him when he was a child.
Consequently, they can communicate rapidly with minimal necessity for small talk.
However, when it comes to his driving skills, he continues to be a strong advocate and firmly believes that he possesses the necessary qualities to excel in every aspect.
Regarding Leclerc’s style, he expressed, “It is a commendable blend of various elements, and what sets it apart for me is the fact that I have known him since his early days.”
“He doesn’t require much conversation; they quickly grasp each other’s thoughts, and sometimes a mere glance suffices to gauge their happiness. I believe he is a remarkable individual in every aspect.”
Heading into the Miami Grand Prix this weekend, Ferrari holds the second position in the Constructors’ standings. Their only race victory of the season thus far was achieved by Carlos Sainz in Australia, who will soon be departing from the team.
