Fred Vasseur quizzed on Adrian Newey amidst 2025 Hamilton v Leclerc title fight expectations

Is there a possibility of Adrian Newey joining Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari in 2025?

Fred Vasseur refused to be drawn on the possibility of Adrian Newey joining Ferrari next season amidst suggestions he could be the key to a Lewis Hamilton v Charles Leclerc Ferrari title fight.

Almost immediately after Red Bull confirmed design legend Newey would leave the team within the first quarter of next season, Ferrari were said to be the Briton’s next destination.

Fred Vasseur sidesteps Adrian Newey question

The Daily Mail asserted that it was a done deal, citing secret conversations in airports and Amanda, Newey’s wife, exploring properties in Italy. However, Newey’s manager, Eddie Jordan, swiftly dismissed the report.

“I’m speaking as someone who should know and I’m not giving any information away… at no stage is any of this discussion happening,” said the Irishman.

The rumors persist despite Vasseur’s response to the Italian media, suggesting that they are merely waiting for a definitive answer from Newey.

The Ferrari team boss responded, “I prefer not to comment on this topic since any response has the potential for multiple interpretations.”

As mentioned earlier, team stability holds paramount significance. I believe we are making commendable progress towards our goals.

What matters to me the most is the stability of the group rather than individual members. I am extremely content with the present circumstances.

However, despite pundits suggesting that Newey’s addition could be the crucial factor for Ferrari to mount a championship challenge, they will have an additional advantage in the upcoming season with Hamilton on their team.

After spending 12 seasons with Mercedes, the Briton is now making a move to Ferrari, and his arrival couldn’t have come at a more opportune moment.

Ferrari has demonstrated significant progress this season, as evidenced by Carlos Sainz’s victory in Australia and Leclerc’s triumph in Monaco.

He secured the second position in the Drivers’ Championship, trailing Max Verstappen by a deficit of 31 points.

With Verstappen’s impressive record of five out of eight race wins, Ferrari might need to postpone their genuine fight for the World title until next season.

When asked about the potential difficulty of managing Hamilton versus Leclerc, Vasseur acknowledged the possibility of them taking points away from each other.

“The Frenchman expressed, ‘My perspective differs from that. I firmly believe that there exists a constant mutual inspiration within the team, and I am confident that having two drivers yields more points compared to… one and a half.'”

The success we achieved in Monaco is partly due to the strong bond between Carlos and Charles, as they constantly motivate each other. Whenever one of them experiences a slight decline in performance, the other manages to surpass them. This dynamic has been consistent since the start of last year.

My perspective is that having two strong drivers is crucial, as it is an integral part of the performance.
