‘Highly-awaited Mercedes’ predicted to ‘make others pay a high price’ at Imola

The Mercedes of George Russell pursued.

Never mind Ferrari and McLaren challenging Red Bull at Imola, former F1 team owner Gian Carlo Minardi believes Mercedes could kick-start their fightback next Sunday.

Despite Red Bull’s dominance in this year’s championships, securing victory in four out of the six races, Ferrari took advantage of Max Verstappen’s retirement in Australia, while McLaren seized the opportunity of a Safety Car restart in Miami.

‘The highly-awaited team in Imola is certainly Mercedes’

Red Bull has not lost to two different teams since 2022, making this their first defeat of such nature.

In 2022, Mercedes joined Ferrari in claiming victory on the top spot of the podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix. George Russell led the way, with Lewis Hamilton following closely behind, securing a 1-2 finish for the team.

Since then, the team has been unable to achieve the same accomplishment, and this season they haven’t even been able to secure a spot on the podium, resulting in a disappointing fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship.

Minardi is confident that by implementing numerous significant enhancements, such as a new floor, to their car in Miami, they can effectively reverse their luck in the upcoming race at Imola.

“The highly-awaited team in Imola is certainly Mercedes,” he told his website. “From what we hear their championship should start right from the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit.

Despite having a car that was not at its peak performance level in Miami, they proved that their seven World Championships were not a result of luck, as they secured a sixth-place finish and demonstrated their capability to make their rivals pay a significant price.

Minardi awaits ‘Ferrari’s response’ as Red Bull lose ‘peace of mind’

At the Miami Grand Prix, McLaren unveiled numerous upgrades for the MCL38, with a total of 10 enhancements specifically for Lando Norris’ car. These modifications were so significant that it was labeled as a ‘2.0’ version due to the extensive changes.

Ferrari is anticipated to perform similarly in Imola.

Later this week, the Scuderia is planning to test a significantly modified car on the track. The new version will feature Red Bull-inspired sidepods and an upgraded floor. These enhancements will be evaluated during a “filming day” session.

Minardi stated that McLaren implemented numerous updates that yielded highly favorable outcomes.

Currently, we are eagerly awaiting Ferrari’s response. In Miami, they have already implemented certain updates that have yielded favorable outcomes, all in preparation for the crucial package that is anticipated to arrive in Imola.

Despite facing internal issues, Red Bull continues to be the benchmark car in recent seasons, although its peace of mind may have been compromised.

“Verstappen, who achieved double pole position, won the Sprint race, and secured second place in the main race, continues to be the standout performer. It seems that the Dutchman aimed to please without venturing into unnecessary risks.”

Contrary to the TV commentary, the Italian has announced that there are still tickets available for the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Imola. They express their excitement to see many of you at the Imola Circuit, cheering and supporting your favorite racers, and enjoying a weekend filled with intense motorsport action.
