Kevin Magnussen is just two points shy of receiving a race ban.
Sitting on 10 penalty points, Kevin Magnussen will line up in Monaco two points away from a race ban and worried that a rival’s actions could see him sidelined for a Grand Prix.
Kevin Magnussen has 10 penalty points on his Super Licence having earned five alone at the Miami Grand Prix where he was heavily penalised for leaving the track and gaining advantage.

Despite typically resulting in only a 10-second time penalty, his continuous misbehavior in his efforts to fend off Lewis Hamilton and assist his teammate Nico Hulkenberg in earning points compelled the stewards to take strict action against him.
In the Sprint race, he accumulated three points, and later, in the Grand Prix, he received an additional two points due to his collision with Logan Sargeant. Within just two days, he found himself dangerously close to facing an automatic race ban.
According to F1 regulations, drivers who accumulate 12 points within a 12-month period will face a one-race suspension.
Magnussen’s retention of all his 10 points until 9 March 2025 implies an imminent ban approaching.
He asserts with defiance that it will not alter the way he races.
“I didn’t think about it,” he told Autosport. “I have to still keep pushing otherwise I spend the next 20 races cruising around. I’m not gonna do that. It doesn’t make sense either.
He further mentioned that expressing regret for any of his actions is difficult.
“I have mixed feelings about playing this game. However, I consistently make an effort to abide by the rules. Despite engaging in intense battles with some opponents and occasionally crossing the line, resulting in penalties, I willingly accept the consequences.”
There has been a debate regarding the accuracy of the rules for this matter, and I can understand and relate to that. I have shared my suggestions on how they can be improved.
Although I recognize that there is a problem with the rules, it’s important to note that I am not responsible for creating them. Instead of blaming the player, it’s important to accept that this is simply the way things are.

Kevin Magnussen: I still don’t like the way the rules are
Magnussen was awarded seven out of his total of ten points due to his involvement in collisions with Alex Albon, Yuki Tsunoda, and subsequently Sargeant during the Miami race.
The Haas driver is apprehensive about the upcoming accident, as it could potentially be the reason for him to stay home for a weekend even with some assistance from the person he is targeting.
“He explained that they have included certain provisions in the rules, which allow the driver on the outside to intentionally cut off the other driver in a specific manner before making a turn. Consequently, if this maneuver occurs, a penalty will be imposed on the driver on the inside.”
Where has common sense gone? Where is our instinct? Why must we burden ourselves with so many rules? Simply allow us to race and trust our instincts – we all desire to complete the race, we all want to exercise good judgment.
However, he went on to say, “During my discussions with the FIA, I have gained a better understanding of their perspective. Although I am still not fond of the rules, I acknowledge that they are doing their utmost to improve the situation.”
Throughout this process, I have gained some valuable insights and knowledge. Consequently, I believe that they have adopted a new perspective and provided explanations that will enable me to navigate similar situations more effectively than I previously could.
“However, there is still a possibility that I might find myself in a situation where unintentional actions could result in me getting banned.”
