Mercedes reserve Mick Schumacher.
As Alpine boss Bruno Famin weighs up his F1 2025 driver options, he confirmed that Mick Schumacher, who is impressing them in the World Endurance Championship, is an option.
Having completed two seasons in Formula 1 with Haas in 2021 and 2022, Schumacher was unfortunately let go by the team and has since struggled to secure a place on the grid. However, could his fortunes be turning around?

While still a reserve driver for the Mercedes Formula 1 team, Schumacher has looked outside of Formula 1 as part of his 2024 racing schedule by joining forces with Alpine for their WEC Hypercar programme.
Alpine’s Famin confirmed to various media outlets, including PlanetF1.com’s Thomas Maher, that they are willing to consider all options for their F1 2025 driver line-up. Famin also mentioned the importance of having at least one experienced driver, sparking discussions about Schumacher’s potential involvement.
Alpine’s start to F1 2024 has been disappointing, as their extensively revamped challenger has yet to yield any significant results. The team’s sole point of the season thus far has been earned by Esteban Ocon.
Ocon and his team-mate Pierre Gasly’s contracts are set to expire by the end of the season. If Alpine fails to improve their performance, both drivers may consider leaving the team. In such a scenario, Schumacher could be a potential candidate for an F1 comeback.
Famin confirmed, “He’s definitely one possibility, along with many others.”

It appears that Schumacher is not the only one vying for a spot in the Alpine team if there is a vacancy in F1 2025. However, Schumacher has an advantage as he is clearly making a remarkable impression on Famin with his exceptional contribution to their WEC team.
Famin would highlight Schumacher’s mindset as a standout quality, commending his successful transition to a crucial team mentality.
“He’s doing an exceptional job in endurance,” he commented, emphasizing, “His mindset is truly remarkable.”
Certainly, he possesses exceptional speed, although I believe it is widely acknowledged that he is indeed quick.
“It is not necessarily advantageous to achieve an exceptional lap time due to the presence of Balance of Performance (BoP). One must exercise caution in terms of performance.”
Mick’s incredible adaptation to the endurance mindset is the focal point, rather than solely assessing his pure driving performance.
In the past, it was commonly believed that drivers in single-seaters were self-centered. However, Mick has defied this stereotype right from the start, displaying remarkable cooperation and being extremely helpful to his teammates.
“He possesses a strong eagerness to acquire knowledge, particularly in the realm of endurance. His mindset is incredibly positive and determined, and he exhibits exceptional team spirit.”
Jack Doohan, the talented Alpine Academy star and F1 reserve, is a strong candidate to secure a race seat in 2025.
