Intriguing comments from former Formula 1 chief technical officer Pat Symonds, where he spoke positively about expanding the grid, have come back to light after his shock Andretti move.

Andretti, in collaboration with American automotive giant General Motors, continues to push forward in their attempts to challenge Formula 1’s denial and ensure their position on the race grid. The establishment of a new facility at Silverstone was a clear declaration of their determination, and they have recently reiterated their commitment.

New Andretti recruit Pat Symonds feels ‘no harm in having more cars’

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Andretti had acquired Symonds’ services, after he played a significant role in the creation of Formula 1’s new regulations for 2022. Symonds will commence his work at Silverstone once his gardening leave period concludes.

Formula 1 has been hesitant about the idea of including an 11th team, but during the 2023 Autosport International show, Symonds had shown his approval for expanding the grid if the new team met certain standards. Andretti’s decision to join the sport has received this endorsement.

He had mentioned that as long as the quality is maintained, there is no harm in having more cars.

“The sports industry is a remarkable tale of achievement and excellence.”

Mario Andretti explains US Congress intervention as intended F1 entry year confirmed

In a recent interview exclusively with Thomas Maher from PlanetF1.com, Mario Andretti, the 1978 World Champion, provided an update on the team’s progress in securing entry onto the F1 grid. He confirmed that they are diligently working towards meeting all the required criteria.

In addition, he had hinted that there were “fascinating individuals” ready to join F1 once approved. Symonds, being a significant acquisition, didn’t even require the official green light to join.

“Regarding all aspects, I can confidently say that progress is being made,” shared Mario Andretti in an exclusive interview with PlanetF1.com.

We have successfully opened a facility in Silverstone, which is a significant milestone. With our diligent efforts, I am starting to feel hopeful about the future. We are determined to reach a conclusion soon, as we have all the necessary resources and are prepared for any potential requirements.

“We are diligently striving to fulfill every aspect of it, hoping for the best outcome.”

We are diligently working at a rapid pace in every possible aspect to advance the cause. Our intention is to demonstrate our utmost seriousness about the project through actions rather than mere words.

“We currently have a substantial team assembled here, with a group of intriguing individuals eagerly anticipating the official approval from Formula 1 to proceed at full throttle.”

Our aim is to demonstrate that everything is aligned with the desired state. The involvement of General Motors in this endeavor holds great significance as it brings on board a manufacturer with no prior experience in F1.

In my opinion, the extensive exposure of F1 in the United States should be advantageous in attracting a complete US team. I remain optimistic without a doubt.
