Sergio Perez has been warned that his new two-year Red Bull deal will offer little security if he cannot recapture his form.
That message comes from former racer turned Channel 4 pundit Billy Monger, who says the Red Bull driver “looks lost” after a fresh disastrous display at the Canadian Grand Prix, a race won by his team-mate Max Verstappen.

After missing out on a podium finish since the Chinese Grand Prix in April, Perez sought to recover from a disastrous race weekend in Monaco. In that event, he faced elimination in Q1 and encountered a major collision with the Haas cars on the very first lap.
Despite his poor performance in the Canadian Grand Prix race weekend, Perez still signed a new two-year Red Bull contract. However, his signing did not lead to an improvement in his form as he was once again eliminated in Q1 and eventually crashed out of the race on Lap 53.
Despite his new deal, Monger fears that Perez’s future at Red Bull is uncertain and believes there will be more of that.
Monger commented on Perez, saying, “He appears completely lost at the moment.”
“He has completely lost his form just as he signed a new contract, indicating that he needs to put in a lot of effort to improve.”
He must regain his confidence swiftly, as his performance in Red Bull was subpar and could jeopardize his future despite having a two-year contract.

Perez complied with Red Bull’s request and safely returned to the pit lane after his incident at Turn 5, violating Article 26.10 of F1’s Sporting Regulations. This rule mandates that if a driver encounters significant mechanical issues, they must exit the track promptly and cautiously.
As a result, Perez was handed a penalty of a three-place grid drop for the upcoming race in Spain, adding to his already unfortunate situation. Additionally, Red Bull faced a fine of €25,000.
In his discussion with the media regarding his troubles at the Canadian GP, Perez clarified that encountering damage due to a collision with Pierre Gasly at the beginning of the race became a setback. Additionally, the appearance of a dry racing line made it challenging for him to overtake later on, ultimately resulting in his unfortunate spin into the barriers.
However, moving forward, Perez intends to “regroup” as he has confidently stated that he has no uncertainty about reclaiming his previous podium-worthy performance from the beginning of the season.
Perez stated that the initial segment of the race was negatively impacted due to the damage caused by Gasly.
The second portion of the race appeared to be improving, but unfortunately, in the third part, we found ourselves stuck in a single line with no opportunity to overtake.
“Regrettably, this resulted in me returning to the track and ultimately making an error at Turn 6, a highly challenging corner where many drivers faltered. Unfortunately, I found myself among the few unable to maintain control of the car. I made a mistake.”
“I believe it’s time for us to regroup and refocus. With a long season ahead, we should remain determined. Although we may have had some setbacks in the past few races, I have no doubt that I can reach the same level of performance again.”
Perez sits P5 in the Drivers’ Championship and 87 points behind team-mate Verstappen at the top of the standings.
