Ferrari signs Lewis Hamilton in a surprising move.
When season six of Drive to Survive was released back in February, Toto Wolff was seen on screens around the world saying he couldn’t imagine Lewis Hamilton in red.
The Briton has recently revealed his departure from Mercedes to join Ferrari for the 2025 championship, indicating that he will be sporting the color red in the upcoming season.
Toto Wolff reminded about ‘can’t imagine Hamilton in red’ comment
Lewis Hamilton broke the internet on February 1 with the shock confirmation after 24 hours of whispers that he had signed a multi-year deal with Ferrari.
On Wednesday, the Briton informed Wolff during a casual coffee session, and the press release was subsequently sent out the following day.
After the passage of three weeks, Drive to Survive’s sixth season featured Wolff being captured on camera expressing his inability to picture Hamilton clad in red.
But reminded of that in a recent interview with the Independent, Wolff said: “That is what he said to me. He said he was going to stay and then he decided to go.
However, individuals are prone to changing their minds, and situations can also change unexpectedly, which must be acknowledged and respected. Today’s viewpoint may differ from tomorrow’s, and I hold no grudges or ill will towards this shift.
The Austrian, who has been Hamilton’s team boss since 2013, strongly believes that his soon-to-be former driver has the potential to secure a historic eighth World title with Ferrari.
If that moment arrives, Wolff will probably be among the first to extend his congratulations.
He continued by stating that if Ferrari provides Lewis with a competitive car, there is no doubt that he can secure a World Championship title.
My connection with Lewis will forever remain personal, and I will fondly reminisce about the wonderful moments we shared both in our professional and personal lives.
Although Lewis becomes a rival after joining Ferrari, I will always extend my best wishes for his happiness.

Wolff has previously mentioned that Hamilton assured him he would remain a Mercedes driver indefinitely, and this is not the first instance of such a statement.
Speaking in the aftermath of February’s announcement, the team boss said: “I think it was difficult for him to really tell me because he left for the Christmas holiday and was Mercedes forever.
“Typically, during that period, we have minimal communication as he is away, whereas otherwise we engage in daily conversations.”
“Afterward, he returned and asked, ‘Shall we grab a coffee?’ It was a customary routine for us when the season begins. Then, he dropped the bombshell, ‘I’m heading to Ferrari.’ Surprised, I responded, ‘Seriously?'”
Despite the words echoing in his mind, Wolff still couldn’t envision him wearing red. It just didn’t seem to suit him, although he believed the resulting picture would be intriguing.
Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes will mark the end of their 12-year collaboration, which has resulted in six Drivers’ Championship titles, 82 Grand Prix victories, and eight Constructors’ championships.
