Bobby Green explains difference between himself and ‘spoiled’ Paddy Pimblett: ‘I’ve earned my spot’ | UFC 304

Bobby Green and Paddy Pimblett, who are rivals in the lightweight division of UFC 304, have a mutual dislike for each other.

There’s been no hotel fisticuffs, but Green and Pimblett have exchanged words consistently in recent years. According to Pimblett, “King” is a “proper s—t human being” showing signs of CTE. Green hasn’t talked quite as much trash, but he’s consistently angled for a fight opposite “The Baddy,” who will look to steal Green’s No. 15 spot in the Lightweight rankings with a win Saturday night (July 27, 2024). During Wednesday’s media event, Green explained his issue with Pimblett, namely that he’s done a lot more talking than proving himself.

Green believes that Pimblett is the more confident individual out of the two.

“The thing is the kid was getting a little too brash,” Green explained (via MMA Junkie). “I’m a humble guy. For some reason, he keeps calling me the cocky guy. He’s the cocky f—ker, but to me, it’s like I’ve earned my spot. I’ve been here for so long. I think I’m here 12 years now fighting.

“And it’s not merely 12 years of occasional fights and leisurely hangouts, where I take a break and return the following year. No, I have consistently been engaging in four or five fights per year. Therefore, it’s a bit distinct for me as I have rightfully earned my position. That individual was incessantly talking and boasting. I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Who is this person?'”

Pimblett has certainly received a lot of promotional hype since joining the UFC roster. He’s had to do his part by winning fights, but Pimlbett quickly found his way to main cards and scored a serious BarStool Sports sponsorship early on in his UFC career.

Green proceeded, “I refer to him as the spoiled kid. There are certain children who are oblivious to the fact that everything in the house revolves around them. Personally, it reminds me of my own experiences, as I didn’t have the privilege of having both parents around. I witnessed similar behavior from those kids at school, where they seemed to have no understanding of how they should treat and appreciate their parents.”

“They are spoiled, and he behaves in a similar manner. He fails to acknowledge the fact that the UFC is constantly supporting him. They are actively nurturing your growth. I, on the other hand, had to work hard to earn my success. They had to subject me to challenging situations, molding me through adversity. You, on the contrary, were carefully constructed by them. There exists a distinction between the two of us.”
