Conor McGregor is part owner of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).
But the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) two-division titleholder could soon be a player, as well, if he manages to complete the final two fights on his current contract. The first step in that process is healing the broken pinky toe that sabotaged his UFC 303 comeback against Michael Chandler.
McGregor expressed his belief that this sport is experiencing a surge in popularity. He confidently stated that with his support, he can elevate it to new heights and propel it to unprecedented success. McGregor invited individuals to test their skills in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship and create a reputation of their own. He pointed out the remarkable journey of Michael Perry, a prominent figure in the sport who has gained recognition as the ‘King of Violence’. McGregor mentioned that Perry is currently facing an opponent who is considered inferior, and he expressed his support for Perry’s victory.
Perry, 32, was released from UFC after losing four of five but has since racked up five straight wins for BKFC with three knockouts. “Platinum” will return to the “sweet science” to battle celebrity pugilist Jake Paul this weekend in Tampa (stream it here).
McGregor continued, emphasizing, “This is the genuine article. There isn’t a single person in the combat sports world who can utter a negative word about a bareknuckle fighting champion, and that, to me, is a guaranteed success. Although I still have two fights remaining on my contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, I am also interested in the three lightweight contenders sitting here with us today. I’m not just here as an owner; I’ll proudly take on the title of player-manager for this endeavor.”
McGregor is expected to make his Octagon return by the end of the year.
