PFL Africa set for 2025 launch, Francis Ngannou to serve as Chairman

PFL Africa has been announced as part of Professional Fighters League’s (PFL) expanding international portfolio. The new league is scheduled to commence in mid-2025, with heavyweight sensation Francis Ngannou assuming the role of Chairman.

PFL CEO Peter Murray expressed the Professional Fighters League’s enthusiasm in introducing PFL Africa, the third international fight franchise, as they strive to establish themselves as the ultimate MMA Champions League.

PFL Africa is excited to bring premium content to Africa, where some of the world’s best fighters, like our league Chairman Francis Ngannou, and passionate fans reside. We aim to cater to these fans while expanding the PFL’s presence in an underserved market. With the support of our esteemed investment and broadcast partners, we eagerly anticipate the launch of PFL Africa league in 2025.

Ngannou, who signed a long-term deal in mid-2023 but is yet to compete for the promotion, discussed his upcoming position as chairman.

The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion expressed his excitement and honor in being appointed as the Chairman of PFL Africa. He believes that this league will play a crucial role in shaping African MMA, laying a strong foundation for its growth. Recognizing the immense talent present in Africa, he is proud to provide a global platform for these fighters. Moreover, he feels privileged to give back to his homeland and deliver exceptional content to a region with a passionate and diverse fanbase.

“The Predator” — who hails from Cameroon — registered two professional boxing bouts since joining PFL against two of the most dangerous heavyweights in the game in Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. After losing to “The Gypsy King” via split decision, Ngannou went on to suffer a devastating knockout loss to “AJ” earlier this year (highlights).

Ngannou’s PFL debut was further delayed after his son Kobe passed away at just 15 months old earlier this year.

PFL Africa joins PFL Europe and PFL MENA as part of the promotion’s plan to dominate the international fight scene, with Helios Sports & Entertainment Group holding a major stake in the promotion.
