Aljamain Sterling wants to fight Diego Lopes at The Sphere.
I’m not sure what prompted the sportsbooks to get ahead of that potential 145-pound showdown, but the number crunchers over at BetOnline.ag already have the opening line and “Funk Master” — a former bantamweight champion — is the +130 underdog.
Lopes began the match with odds of -150, making him the betting favorite.
UFC Sphere, also known as Noche UFC during “Riyadh Season” (just go with it) is scheduled for Sat., Sept. 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The pay-per-view (PPV) card does not yet have an official main event, which may suggest matchmakers are waiting on this confirmation.
This rumored title fight is also in the running.
Sterling (24-4) made his featherweight debut with a unanimous decision victory over Calvin Kattar at UFC 300 back in April. As for Lopes (25-6), who also claimed victory at UFC 300, he’s fresh off his win over late replacement Dan Ige at UFC 303 just a few weeks back.
I hope the promotion manages to finalize the signing of this fight in time for UFC Sphere.
