WTF? Din Thomas proclaims Jean Silva should fight Ilia Topuria for the Featherweight title

Title shot for “Lord”?

Jean Silva scored a gigantic win at UFC Denver last night (Sat., July 13, 2024) when he butchered Drew Dober’s eye and caused a doctor stoppage to get a TKO win from inside Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado (watch highlights). Silva and Dober scored Fight of the Night as well.

During the ESPN+ UFC Denver post-show, UFC analyst Din Thomas made the case for Silva to get a Featherweight title shot next.

“Man, I mean, Jean Silva is something else; he is absolutely nasty,” Thomas said. “I was watching the fight next to Mick Maynard, the matchmaker, and I’m sitting there saying if this guy can make 145, let’s just put him in there with Ilia Topuria now. Yeah. He looks the part. His striking looks the part.”

Yeah, that is a preposterous idea from Thomas. Kamaru Usman, who was on the post-show with Thomas, rightfully told him to slow down with the title shot idea.

While Silva has had an incredible two weeks—stopping Dober last night and knocking out Charles Jourdain at UFC 303—he is still a UFC rookie and only has three fights under his belt. Plus, the Brazilian missed weight at UFC 303.

Despite that, Silva is undoubtedly a fighter worth keeping an eye on and is undeniably a formidable opponent. Going by the moniker “Lord,” he currently boasts an impressive record of 11 consecutive victories, all of which were achieved through knockout.
