2024-25 Schedule: Superstar matchups coming to St. Louis
Make sure you catch MacKinnon, McDavid, and other NHL superstars at Enterprise Center this season.
Despite the 2024-25 season being just over two months away, our excitement for the upcoming year remains undeterred as we eagerly await the St. Louis Blues’ return to the ice.
This season, the upcoming schedule guarantees an abundance of NHL superstars making appearances at Enterprise Center.
Here is a list of some must-see marquee matchups that fans should definitely attend:
Beasts from the East:
Nov. 2 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Nov. 5 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
Nov. 9 vs. Washington Capitals
Nov. 12 vs. Boston Bruins
In the early stages of the season, the Blues will be taking on some of the Eastern Conference’s most prominent teams over a 10-day period.
After delivering an exceptional performance last season, Auston Matthews from the Toronto team accomplished a remarkable milestone by scoring an impressive 69 goals. This achievement is unparalleled in the NHL since the era dominated by legendary players Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky.
Despite losing Steven Stamkos to the Predators this offseason (more details to follow), Tampa Bay still has two of the most prominent figures in the game: Nikita Kucherov, who currently holds the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading point scorer, and Andrei Vasilevskiy, a former recipient of the Vezina Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy, and two-time Stanley Cup Champion.
Despite the Capitals’ recent inability to finish first in the standings, Alex Ovechkin remains determined to make history. With 31 goals scored in the 2023-24 season, the renowned player known as The Great 8 is only 41 goals away from surpassing Gretzky’s record for the most goals in League history.
The homestand concludes with a highly anticipated matchup against the Boston Bruins, a team that has come close to winning the Stanley Cup since their defeat by the Blues in 2019. David Pastrnak, their leading star, showcased his exceptional talent by finishing the previous season with 110 points, ranking fifth in the entire League.
Choose any of the captivating five games during this homestand, including the highly anticipated first-ever visit of the newly formed Utah Hockey Club to Enterprise Center on November 7th.
Big Stars from the Big Apple:
Dec. 15 vs. New York Rangers
Artemi Panarin of the New York Rangers ranked among the top scorers last year, with only three skaters surpassing his point total. These skaters were Kucherov, Nathan MacKinnon, the reigning Hart Trophy winner, and Connor McDavid, the reigning Conn Smythe winner. Panarin’s impressive 120 points and the Rangers’ triumph in the Metropolitan Division secured him fifth place in the League’s MVP award race. However, Panarin is not the only standout player on the team. The Rangers also boast Adam Fox, a strong contender for the Norris Trophy’s Top 5, and Igor Shesterkin, a former Vezina-winning goaltender.
The West Coast’s Youngest Powerhouse:
Jan. 27 vs. Vancouver Canucks
Last year, the Vancouver Canucks achieved an impressive feat by skyrocketing in the standings. They went from earning 83 points in the 2022-23 season to a remarkable 109 points, securing the Pacific Division title and even clinching a victory in the First Round of the Playoffs. Notably, it was JT Miller, a 30-year-old player, who led the team with an outstanding 103 points. However, the contributions of Quinn Hughes, a 24-year-old, and Elias Pettersson, a 25-year-old, were equally significant in propelling the Canucks’ ascent. Hughes, in particular, stood out as he excelled among all NHL defensemen with an impressive 92 points, surpassing even other players mentioned in this article. Consequently, his exceptional performance led to him being awarded the prestigious 2024 Norris Trophy, recognizing him as the League’s top defenseman.
Back-to-back against the Stanley Cup Finalists:
Feb. 4 vs. Edmonton Oilers
Feb. 6 vs. Florida Panthers
In a rare event, the Blues will be hosting back-to-back games against both teams that competed in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final in early February. These multi-game superstar visits are few and far between.
The set opens with a special visit from the Edmonton Oilers, led by the dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. These two players have dominated the NHL in recent years, with their high-scoring abilities. In a thrilling playoff run, the Oilers came incredibly close to winning the Stanley Cup, overcoming a 3-0 deficit to force a thrilling Game 7 against the Florida Panthers.
Since the 2016-17 season, Connor McDavid has been in a league of his own, with a staggering 934 points. No other skater in the NHL even comes close, with the closest player trailing by 100 points. Just below McDavid on the leaderboard is his own teammate, Leon Draisaitl, with an impressive 790 points.
In a historic achievement, McDavid won the Conn Smythe Playoff MVP Trophy this year, despite not bringing home the Stanley Cup. This is only the sixth time in NHL history that a player has accomplished this feat. McDavid’s performance in the playoffs was truly exceptional, as he recorded a remarkable 42 points in just 25 games, ranking as the fourth-highest total in League history.
Blues fans may find the second game of these matchups particularly significant. This week, the Florida Panthers, who are the defending champions and led by St. Louis’ very own Matthew Tkachuk (son of Blues Hall of Famer Keith Tkachuk), will make their only visit to the Enterprise Center. The combination of Tkachuk, Sam Reinhart, former Vezina winner Andrei Bobrovsky, and two-time Selke Trophy winner Aleksander Barkov proved to be a formidable force, leading the Panthers to their historic first-ever Stanley Cup victory.
A New Look to an Old Rival:
March 27 vs. Nashville Predators
The Nashville Predators, the initial rival from the Central Division on this roster, have made a significant addition this summer by acquiring Steven Stamkos, a two-time Stanley Cup Champion. Stamkos, who has won the Rocket Richard Trophy twice, has joined the Predators following his impressive seventh season with 40 goals, which is the second highest among current NHL players. His new teammates include Roman Josi, a former Norris Trophy winner and the leading scorer in Nashville’s history, along with Filip Forsberg, who holds the second highest scoring record for the Predators. Additionally, the team welcomes Ryan O’Reilly, the recipient of the Conn Smythe and Selke Trophies in 2019.
Recent Champs looking to get back to Glory:
April 5 vs. Colorado Avalanche
Every night, the Colorado Avalanche is fortunate to have two exceptional players from the League on their team: Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. These players have proven themselves to be among the very best, as evident from their recent achievements. MacKinnon secured the prestigious Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP last season, thanks to his outstanding performance that led to a remarkable 140-point explosion. Makar, on the other hand, demonstrated his exceptional skills by winning both the Norris and Conn Smythe Trophies after the Avalanche triumphed in the 2022 Stanley Cup. Additionally, Makar’s impressive feat of reaching 300 points in just 280 games makes him the second-fastest defenseman in League history, falling behind only Bobby Orr by a single game.
