Today, Don Waddell, the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets, has officially announced the signing of defenseman Jake Christiansen. The contract is for a one-year term and has a two-way arrangement, allowing Christiansen to potentially play in both the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League during the 2024-25 season.

At 24 years old, Christiansen has recorded a total of seven points in his career with the Blue Jackets. This includes one goal and six assists, along with six penalty minutes and 36 shots on goal. He made his NHL debut in the 2021-22 season and has played in 44 games so far. In the 2023-24 season, he played in 12 games and accumulated two assists, two penalty minutes, and seven shots on goal. Christiansen initially signed a three-year entry-level contract with Columbus on March 4, 2020.

Christiansen, a West Vancouver native from British Columbia, has had an impressive career in the AHL since his professional debut in the 2019-20 season. Playing for both the Cleveland Monsters and Stockton Heat, he has accumulated 40 goals, 100 assists, and 140 points, along with 134 penalty minutes and 581 shots on goal in 211 games.

In the 2023-24 season, Christiansen had his best year yet, achieving personal records in goals, assists, and points with 13 goals, 33 assists, and 46 points. He also recorded 34 penalty minutes and 183 shots on goal in 62 games with the Monsters. This exceptional performance earned him a spot on both the AHL’s Second All-Star Team and the AHL All-Star Classic for the second time in his career.

Furthermore, Christiansen stood out among AHL defensemen last season. He ranked fourth in points, fifth in goals, and ninth in assists, showcasing his skill and impact on the ice.

In addition to his participation in the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic, the blueliner, weighing 196 pounds and standing at 6 feet tall, earned a spot on the league’s Second All-Star Team during the 2021-22 season. This recognition came after he tied for the highest number of goals among defensemen in the AHL, while also ranking second in shots on goal and fourth in points. Across 62 games, he accumulated impressive stats of 13 goals, 32 assists, and a total of 45 points, with 177 shots on goal. In his career with the Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League from 2015 to 2020, he played a total of 297 games, recording 50 goals, 102 assists, and 152 points. Additionally, he accumulated 114 penalty minutes during this time.
