Bruins Announce 2024-25 Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship Program

From October 2024 to May 2025, every participant will be matched with a mentor in the Bruins’ Hockey Operations Department.

BOSTON – The Boston Bruins announced today, July 22, that the organization is now accepting new applicants for the 2024-25 Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship Program.

The Bruins’ Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship Program is now in its fourth year since its launch in September 2021. The primary objective of the program is to offer guidance and support to individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, ultimately paving the way for successful careers in scouting or the hockey industry.

From October 2024 to May 2025, every participant will be assigned a mentor from the Bruins’ Hockey Operations Department. Through activities like analyzing film, attending virtual study sessions, and joining group workshops, participants will acquire valuable knowledge. This program aims to empower individuals by offering practical experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Ultimately, it seeks to broaden the pool of potential candidates for future scouting and hockey operations roles.

In the last three years, a total of 28 individuals have been hosted by the Bruins in their Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship Program. Some notable past participants include Danielle Marmer, who currently serves as the PWHL Boston General Manager and formerly worked as the Player Development and Scouting Assistant for the Boston Bruins. Additionally, Joel Martin, the Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings, and Laura Brennan, the Assistant Coach for PWHL New York, have also been part of the program. Another participant, Duante’ Abercrombie, achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first head coach of Tennessee State University’s Men’s Hockey Team in April 2024, making history as the first head coach of a hockey program at a historically Black college or university.

“The Boston Bruins organization is proud to declare the commencement of the fourth year of the esteemed Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship program,” expressed Jeremy Rogalski, Director of Hockey Analytics for the Bruins. “Since its inception in 2021, we have thoroughly enjoyed fostering connections with our participants and witnessing their remarkable progress towards attaining their personal and career aspirations. We extend our gratitude to the entire Bruins organization for their unwavering investment and support, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the next cohort of mentees.”
