Canes Sign Badinka To Entry-Level Contract
Carolina chose Defenseman as the 34th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
RALEIGH, NC. – Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Dominik Badinka to a three-year, entry-level contract. Badinka will receive $775,000 at the NHL level and $85,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level for all three seasons, and the deal will include signing bonuses worth $282,150.
“Dominik is a puck-moving defenseman with good length and mobility,” said Hurricanes Assistant General Manager Darren Yorke. “He played very well as an 18-year-old against tough competition in Sweden last season, and we’re excited for him to take the next steps in his development.”
In the 2023-24 season, 18-year-old Badinka showcased his skills as a defenseman for Malmo IF in the SHL. He contributed to his team’s success by earning four points, including one goal and three assists, in 33 games. Remarkably, he was among the select group of three defensemen aged 19 or younger who managed to record a point in the SHL that season.
Standing at an impressive height of 6’3″ and weighing 185 pounds, Badinka also displayed his abilities with Malmo’s junior team, participating in 17 games. During this time, he accumulated 13 points, comprising two goals and eleven assists.
Before joining Malmo, Badinka played in Finland for Jokerit’s junior team in the 2022-23 season. He showcased his talent by registering 23 points, including five goals and 21 assists, in 43 games.
Badinka’s hockey journey began in Czechia, where he played for Pirati Chomutov’s under-17 team from 2019-2022. Over the course of three seasons, he notched an impressive 59 points, featuring 14 goals and 45 assists in 49 games.
Representing his home country at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, Badinka demonstrated his skills on an international stage. In five games, he contributed two assists to the team’s success.
Recognizing his talent and potential, the Hurricanes selected Badinka as the 34th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft.
