ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have loaned forward Ludwig Persson to Jukurit of Liiga (Finland-1) for the 2024-25 season, senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick announced today. Persson will be eligible to return to North America at the conclusion of Jukurit’s 2024-25 season.

In the 2022 NHL Draft, the Capitals chose Persson, aged 20, as the 85th overall pick. Standing at 6’1″ and weighing 193 pounds, this forward had an impressive performance while on loan to IPK of Mestis (Finland-2) during the 2023-24 season. With 55 points (10 goals, 45 assists) in 48 games, Persson led the team in scoring. He also ranked second in the league for assists and tied for third in overall points. Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Persson continued to excel in the playoffs, contributing 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) in 19 games. His efforts were instrumental in leading IPK to the Mestis league championship, where he ranked tied for second in goals and third in points among all skaters.

Persson’s performance during the 2022-23 season was notable as he accumulated 15 points (4 goals and 11 assists) in 45 games while playing for BIK Karlskoga in HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second-tier hockey league. Among his teammates, Persson ranked ninth in assists and tenth in overall points. Additionally, Persson had a brief stint with Frölunda in the Swedish Hockey League, appearing in one game. In the previous season, 2021-22, Persson showcased his skills by contributing to Frölunda’s junior team, playing in 41 games and tallying an impressive 61 points (25 goals and 36 assists), the highest on the team.

In terms of international play, Persson contributed with one goal over the course of six games while representing Sweden’s U-20 team during the 2022-23 season. Furthermore, at the 2021 U-18 World Junior Championship, Persson showcased his skills by accumulating four points, consisting of two goals and two assists, throughout seven games, ultimately securing a bronze medal for his team.
