SALT LAKE CITY — Upon selecting Cole Beaudoin with the No. 24 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Utah Hockey Club general manager Bill Armstrong didn’t mince words when discussing the 18-year-old center prospect.

According to Armstrong, “The culture of our organization could potentially be transformed by his work ethic.”

To secure Beaudoin, Utah was willing to relinquish a second- and third-round pick in this year’s draft, along with a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche. The team’s determination to acquire him led to this move.

Armstrong expressed his enthusiasm, stating that if an ideal player is spotted at the perfect moment, he is willing to invest more in acquiring them for the unique qualities they bring. He wholeheartedly supports such individuals, as they will enhance the team’s performance, work ethic, and overall team spirit, contributing positively to the team culture.

Beaudoin, who recently inked an entry-level agreement with Utah, appears to possess the potential to meet or even exceed the anticipated performance standards.

He stated, “I am a diligent centerman who excels in all areas of the ice. No matter the circumstance, I am committed to giving my all. Whether it’s during workouts, practices, or games, I will dedicate myself completely to contribute and support the team.”

Beaudoin drafted by Utah Hockey Club

Beaudoin, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds, is widely regarded as one of the top athletic and physically gifted prospects in the draft. Last season, he showcased his skills by tying for second in scoring for Barrie of the Ontario Hockey League, accumulating an impressive 62 points (28 goals, 34 assists) in 67 games. Additionally, he played a crucial role in Canada’s victory at the 2024 IIHF under-18 World Junior Championship, contributing four points (two goals, two assists) in seven games.

Besides his strong work ethic, Beaudoin has dedicated substantial time both on and off the ice to become one of the most physically dominant forwards from this draft class.

Beaudoin mentioned that for approximately five years, he has been dedicated to enhancing his strength and speed. His ultimate goal is not just to be drafted, but to reach the NHL and have a successful, enduring career. He invests significant time in the gym, focusing on preparation and stretching, to ensure that he can give his utmost effort during every shift on the ice.

Beaudoin is expected to return to the OHL this season, but he confidently anticipates making his NHL debut sooner rather than later.

Beaudoin expressed his confidence in his game style and playing approach, stating that he intends to pursue his goal of making the team as early as possible. He plans to give his best effort during training camp to secure a spot that year. If unsuccessful, he intends to return to his club team and have a successful season, with the aim of making the team in the following year. He is determined to do everything in his power to achieve his objective.
