Flames Prospect Hurtig To Skate For Sweden At Summer Showcase

Axel Hurtig has been chosen to represent Sweden in this year’s World Junior Summer Showcase.

Axel Hurtig, a promising Flames prospect, is all set to represent Sweden in the upcoming World Junior Summer Showcase. The event is scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 3 in Windsor, Ontario and Plymouth, Michigan.

Calgary chose the 19-year-old defenseman during the seventh round of the 2023 NHL Draft.

Last season, Hurtig, a native of Hogas, Sweden, showcased his talent by contributing 11 points (3 goals and 8 assists) for Rogle BK’s U20 team. In addition, he made his professional debut with Rogle’s SHL team, participating in a total of seven games.

After officially joining the Calgary Hitmen in May, he recently participated in the Flames Development Camp. As a result, he is now ready to embark on his first season with the WHL club in North America this upcoming fall.

Hurtig’s Swedish team is set to engage in exhibition matches against junior teams from Finland and the United States. They will also face off against Flames prospects Etienne Morin and Zayne Parekh, who were recently announced as part of the Canadian World Junior Summer Showcase squad.
