Last season, Holmstrom, who is 23 years old, achieved an impressive performance with the Islanders. He scored a total of 25 points, consisting of 15 goals and 10 assists, throughout the course of 75 games. Notably, his exceptional abilities were evident in shorthanded situations, as he netted five goals and contributed seven points, making him the team leader and securing the second position league-wide in the National Hockey League.
In the 2019 NHL Draft, the Islanders chose a 6’2, 215-pound forward as their 23rd overall pick. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 34 points (21 goals, 13 assists) in 125 NHL games and 70 points (27 goals, 43 assists) in 154 games with the Islanders American Hockey League affiliate.
Holmstrom, hailing from Tranas, Sweden, showcased an impressive performance in the SuperElit League with HV71, maintaining an average of over a point per game (50 points in 49 games) over two seasons. His talent extended to the international arena, where he contributed significantly to Team Sweden’s success at the 2018 Under-18 World Junior Championships. Holmstrom’s notable achievements include securing a gold medal and scoring six points (three goals, three assists) in seven games. Notably, he contributed a crucial goal during the Gold Medal game against Russia.
