Today, the Ottawa Senators made an official announcement regarding their signing of goaltender Mads Sogaard to a two-year deal. The initial year of the contract will be structured as a two-way agreement, followed by a one-way arrangement in the subsequent year. In terms of financials, the contract holds a value of $775,000 in the NHL and $225,000 in the AHL.

Sogaard, 23, was drafted 37^th overall by the Senators in the second round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Sogaard made his NHL debut with the Senators on April 1, 2022, in a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. The start saw Sogaard become just the second Danish-born goaltender in NHL history.

Sogaard’s performance in 27 NHL games with the Senators resulted in a 3.44 goals against average and a .884% save percentage, leading to a 10-10-3 record. During the 2022-23 season, Sogaard achieved the title of NHL’s Rookie of the Month for February. In that month, he exhibited outstanding stats with a 2.33 goals against average and a .922 save percentage, going undefeated in 4 wins and 1 tie.

During the 2023-24 season, the native of Aalborg, Denmark, primarily played for the Senators’ AHL affiliate in Belleville. In a total of 32 regular season starts, Sogaard achieved a 2.45 goals against average and a .916% save percentage, resulting in an 18-9-3 record. Additionally, he participated in six playoff games with Belleville, recording a 2.46 goals against average and a .910% save percentage. Throughout his AHL career of 96 games, Sogaard boasts a 50-33-6 record, accompanied by a 2.80 goals against average and a .908% save percentage.

Sogaard, at the young age of 23, is only just embarking on his career. With a contract that extends for two additional seasons, Senators fans have every reason to be thrilled about what the future holds for him.
