Morin, Parekh Named To World Junior Summer Showcase Roster
Two Flames prospects selected to participate in Hockey Canada’s summer World Juniors showcase.
Etienne Morin and Zayne Parekh, two promising Flames prospects, have been selected to represent Hockey Canada in the highly anticipated World Junior Summer Showcase.
Both defencemen have been included in the roster of 42 players selected to take part in the upcoming event, scheduled to be held from July 28 to August 3 in Windsor, Ontario, and Plymouth, Michigan.
Morin, chosen by Calgary as the 48th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, just finished his third successful season with the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL, accumulating 49 points (12 goals and 37 assists) in 58 games. The talented player from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que., also made his debut in professional hockey with the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers in April.
During last month’s NHL Draft in Las Vegas, Parekh, a native of Nobleton, Ont., was chosen as the ninth-overall pick by the Flames. Prior to this achievement, Parekh had an exceptional season with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, earning the title of Canadian Hockey League Defenceman of the Year in 2023-24. His remarkable performance included 96 points (33 goals and 63 assists). Furthermore, Parekh played a significant role in Saginaw’s victory in the Memorial Cup, which took place in June on their home ice.
During the six-day event, participants will engage in a variety of practices and compete against junior teams from Finland, Sweden, and the United States in exhibition games.
During the Development Camp held in Calgary earlier this month, both Morin and Parekh signed entry-level contracts with the Flames that will last for three years.
