Penguins Name Wes Clark Vice President of Player Personnel
President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced today that Wes Clark has been appointed as the Vice President of Player Personnel for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Dubas will be Clark’s direct supervisor as he takes charge of the club’s scouting departments for amateur, professional, and college/European free agents.
“Since last fall, we have made significant moves to enhance our player personnel system. Trent Mann joined us as a player development and scouting advisor, and Andy Saucier was promoted to lead our pro scouting department. These changes were made with the goal of strengthening our team by acquiring talented draft picks, prospects, and young players who will bring a fresh energy to our core,” stated Dubas.
“With the addition of Wes to oversee the departments headed by Nick Pryor and Andy, and the invaluable expertise of Trent, we have positioned the Penguins to effectively execute our personnel strategy both in the short and long term. Having worked closely with Wes for many years, I have complete confidence in his ability to identify talent, guide our staff, improve our scouting processes, learn from mistakes, and challenge my own perspectives on a daily basis.”
Over the past six seasons, Clark, aged 41, has been an integral part of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, assuming different positions within the team. Among his notable roles, Clark has successfully overseen the NHL Draft as the Director of Player Personnel (2023-24) and excelled as the Director of Amateur Scouting (2021-23). Prior to these positions, he contributed as the Assistant Director of Player Personnel (2018-23) and offered his expertise as a Player Evaluation Consultant (2014-16).
Before coming to Toronto, the individual from Oakville, Ontario had a two-year stint as an Amateur Scout for the Florida Panthers from 2016 to 2018. Additionally, they served as the Director of Player Personnel and Development for the Soo Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League from 2011 to 2015.
