Predators Sign Spencer Stastney to Two-Year Contract

In the 2023-24 season, a defenseman participated in a total of 20 NHL games for the Nashville team. Notably, this included their first three ever playoff matches.

Nashville, Tenn. (July 25, 2024) – Nashville Predators General Manager Barry Trotz announced today that the team has signed defenseman Spencer Stastney to a two-year contract worth $825,000 at the NHL level in 2024-25 (two-way) and $825,000 at the NHL level in 2025-26 (one-way).

Stastney, born on January 4, 2000, had an impressive season in 2023-24 with the Predators, playing in a career-high 20 NHL games. He recorded four points, consisting of two goals and two assists, and achieved a +9 rating, which was the third-highest among the team’s defensemen. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 184 pounds, Stastney scored his first NHL goal on November 24 against St. Louis. He also made his debut in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, participating in three games during Nashville’s first-round series against Vancouver. Additionally, at the AHL level, Stastney had an impressive performance, accumulating 20 points with five goals and fifteen assists in 44 games. His achievements earned him a spot in the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic, representing the Milwaukee Admirals.

Stastney was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the fifth round (131st overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft. Since making his debut with the team in the 2022-23 season, he has accumulated six points (2 goals, 4 assists) and an impressive +14 rating in 28 games. In the American Hockey League (AHL), Stastney has recorded 33 points (10 goals, 23 assists) in 102 appearances with the Milwaukee Admirals, including six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in 26 playoff games.

Before turning professional, Stastney had a successful collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame from 2018-2022, where he tallied 63 points (16 goals, 47 assists) in 143 games. His performance earned him various awards, including Second Team All-Big Ten in the 2020-21 season and a spot on the 2019 Big Ten All-Tournament Team.

Originally from Mequon, Wisconsin, Stastney represented his country at the 2020 World Junior Championship and won a silver medal at the 2018 U-18 World Championship. Prior to that, he spent two seasons playing for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program from 2016-2018.
