Tatar Returning to "Full Package" Devils | BLOG

Tatar is excited to reunite with the Devils, who have grown a year older and more experienced as a team.

Despite not initially wanting to leave the New Jersey Devils after the 2022-23 season, Tomas Tatar found himself on a new team at the beginning of the last season due to circumstances. However, when Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald reached out during the third day of free agency, it was an obvious decision for Tatar to return to the place he considered home.

At 33 years old, he eagerly anticipated reuniting with a team that provided him comfort and a sense of familiarity. Although the team’s core remains intact and he will recognize most of the faces, he understands that this time around, the team will possess a distinct atmosphere.

After enduring a challenging season last year, the team has emerged older and wiser. The modifications Fitzgerald implemented during the off-season have further enhanced the joy of his return.

Tatar expressed his admiration for Fitzgerald’s work from a distance, stating that the off-season had been highly fruitful. He further commented that upon examining the team’s roster, it appeared quite daunting.

After re-joining the New Jersey Devils, Tatar addresses the media.

The new aspect of Tatar’s return will involve the addition of experienced players such as Jacob Markstrom, Brett Pesce, Brendan Dillon, and Stefan Noesen. These individuals have all previously endured the challenges and intensity of playoff hockey.

Tatar expressed that, in his view, the players he faced were extremely challenging. Consequently, he believed that the off-season had been highly successful and had contributed to the team’s overall improvement.

However, gaining strength does not solely rely on acquiring new players. It also entails the growth and development of the younger players whom Tatar initially encountered during his first period with the Devils. The shared experiences they underwent over the span of two years, as well as the single year when Tatar was apart from the team, suggests that Tatar is returning to a New Jersey Devils team that is now more mature and knowledgeable.

“When I initially joined the Devils, the team was quite youthful. However, these players have gained a substantial amount of experience over time,” he expressed. “We have made it to the playoffs and engaged in intense playoff hockey, and as a result, these individuals have emerged as superstars in the league. Even our newer, younger group has swiftly accumulated a wealth of experience. The players we acquire during the off-season are all individuals who possess a profound understanding of playoff hockey. This comprehensive combination is what makes us the complete package.”

There is a lot of anticipation and pressure. We need to live up to it. I think everyone is eagerly looking forward to the start of the season.
