Having been chosen in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft, Taylor Makar is now taking part in his third development camp with the Avalanche organization.

Since joining the league in 2019, Cale Makar has proven himself as one of the top defensemen in the NHL. His younger brother, the forward, follows in his footsteps.

“It’s really awesome,” Taylor expressed, referring to being part of the same organization as his older brother. “Being able to spend time with my brother, gain valuable insights and techniques, connect with people early on, familiarize myself with the staff, and receive training – it’s all incredibly beneficial. Having him here before me, guiding me through various methods, adds to the coolness of the experience.”

During his last three collegiate seasons at U-Mass Amherst, Makar mentioned that he and his brother manage to stay in touch despite their hectic schedules.

Taylor mentioned that they usually make an effort to FaceTime each other every Sunday. During these lengthy calls, they would discuss Taylor’s games and receive valuable tips from the other person. Additionally, Taylor faithfully watches the other person’s games every night they are on, with the aim of gaining knowledge from them. This regular communication is essential in their relationship.

But this season, Makar will be wearing a different jersey since he has transferred to the University of Maine for the upcoming season. He is eager to embark on the next phase of his career.

“I’m really looking forward to a change of scenery,” Taylor expressed. “The coaching staff at that place is absolutely incredible. We’ve had numerous discussions and a fantastic level of communication. I can’t wait to meet the entire team and hopefully, together, we can build a championship-winning squad.”

In the Makar household, competition was abundant when they reminisced about their younger days.

“Taylor mentioned that we attended the same elementary school. After school, our routine involved going home, preparing a microwave plate of nachos, and heading out to the front yard to engage in a lively game of pass. Unfortunately, these games often resulted in someone getting hurt or ending up in tears on the front lawn. That was typically how things unfolded.”

When questioned about which brother would shed tears, Taylor confidently answered, “Without a doubt, Cale. He had quite the reputation for being emotional.”
