Parekh, Gridin each sign 3-year, entry-level contract with Flames

In the 2024 NHL Draft, a defenseman and a forward were selected as the 9th and 28th picks, respectively.

Zayne Parekh and Matvei Gridin each signed a three-year, $2.925 million entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames on Friday. Each has an average annual value of $975,000.

In the 2024 NHL Draft, Parekh, an 18-year-old defenseman, was chosen as the No. 9 pick. Throughout the regular season, he showcased his skills by leading Ontario Hockey League defensemen and setting Saginaw records with an impressive 33 goals and 96 points. Furthermore, he displayed his versatility by scoring 10 power-play goals, two short-handed goals, and six game-winning goals. In the OHL playoffs, Parekh contributed significantly with 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 13 games. Additionally, he played a crucial role in Saginaw’s victory in the Memorial Cup, accumulating five points (one goal, four assists) in five games.

Gridin, a promising 18-year-old forward chosen as the No. 28 pick in the 2024 draft, emerged as a standout player for Muskegon in the United States Hockey League. With a remarkable 83 points (38 goals, 45 assists) achieved over the course of 60 games, he showcased his tremendous growth compared to his previous season’s performance of 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in only 40 games during the 2022-23 season. Excitingly, he has committed to play for the University of Michigan this upcoming season.
