3M Open Predictions & Picks: Will Finau Find HIs Way to the Winner’s Circle at TPC Twin Cities?

In the upcoming week, numerous renowned golfers will compete for an Olympic gold medal. However, this week, notable players such as Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Rory McIlroy will be taking a break from tournament play. Nevertheless, the 3M Open in Minnesota promises an impressive lineup of competitors to anticipate.

The upcoming tournament, marking the sixth edition, will be hosted at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, situated north of Minneapolis.

Many might overlook the 3M Open due to the recent Open Championship and the upcoming Olympic golf tournament.

Despite that, the tournament field boasts numerous noteworthy names. Among them are the reigning 2022 champion Tony Finau, Sam Burns, the amateur sensation Luke Clanton, as well as the runners-up of the Open Championship, Billy Horschel and Justin Rose, who finished just two shots behind the victorious Schauffele.

Finau sits atop 3M Open odds at BetOnline, ahead of Akshay Bhatia, Sam Burns, and Clanton, who has recorded two top-ten finishes in his first four PGA Tour starts.

Odds to Win the 2024 3M Open

  • Tony Finau +1100
  • Akshay Bhatia +1600
  • Sam Burns +1800

3M Open Predictions & Picks

Tournament Winner Pick: Tony Finau (+1100)

Finau missed the Open Championship due to a forgettable Friday, as he shot a 10-over 81 which included a triple-bogey seven on the ninth and a quadruple-bogey eight on the 12th.

However, before his premature departure last week, Finau had been performing exceptionally well. He achieved a tied eighth position at the Memorial, followed by a tied third position at the U.S. Open, and then a tied fifth position at the Travelers Championship the next week.

The positive outcomes contribute to Finau’s increased confidence in securing his initial PGA Tour victory, which he has been striving for since the previous year’s Mexico Open.

In addition to his victory in 2022, Finau’s track record at TPC Twin Cities speaks volumes. He secured a third-place finish in the 2020 3M Open and claimed a tied seventh position in the previous year.

Akshay Bhatia to finish in the top 10 (+275)

Bhatia fell just one shot shy of making the cut for the Open Championship, narrowly missing out on the opportunity to compete at Royal St. George over the weekend.

Upon returning to the United States, Bhatia is expected to achieve a significantly improved outcome this week. Bhatia’s recent performance at the Travelers Championship, where he finished tied for fifth, and the Rocket Mortgage Classic, where he finished tied for second, sets a promising precedent.

Sam Burns to finish in the top 10 (+275)

Entering the final round of the Open Championship, Burns was just one shot out of the lead. But he had a horrific Sunday in Scotland, carding a double-bogey six on the 11th hole and a triple-bogey seven on the following hole on the way to shooting a nine-over 80.

However, I believe he will bounce back from his Open Championship performance and excel at the upcoming 3M Open. Although he hasn’t participated in the tournament since 2020, he did achieve a commendable seventh-place finish in the inaugural edition of the 3M Open in 2019.

Emiliano Grillo to finish in the top 20 (+220)

Grillo’s current performance is not at its peak, as he has failed to make the cut or achieve a top 20 finish in any tournament since his tie for eighth place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

However, due to his impressive performance in this tournament, he has become one of my top contenders for this week. Although he hasn’t won the 3M Open yet, he achieved third place in 2020, second place in 2022, and tenth place last year. If you’re interested in taking a chance on Grillo, there is potential value with odds of +500 for a top ten finish and +1100 for a top five finish.

Billy Horschel to finish in the top 20 (+125)

Despite Horschel’s strong performance on Sunday, he fell a few shots behind. However, his birdies in the last three holes allowed him to end with a commendable three-under 68. Although it wasn’t sufficient to prevent Schauffele from claiming his second major victory of the year, it marked Horschel’s finest major finish to date.

Consequently, he will, or rather should, approach the 3M Open with a significant surge in confidence.

Since this will mark his tournament debut, I won’t go so far as to predict his victory. However, considering his impressive performance at Royal St. George, I believe he has a good opportunity to secure consecutive top-ten finishes in PGA Tour events for the first time since 2020.
