The WNBA regular season has been paused because it’s time for the 2024 All-Star Weekend! While a good chunk of women’s basketball fans are only focused on Saturday’s Team WNBA vs. Team USA showdown, many people are also excited for Friday’s skills competition.

In the end, there is truly nothing comparable to witnessing the exceptional abilities of today’s stars. Although the WNBA festivities may not have a dunk contest like its NBA counterpart, they will still captivate with the skills challenge, three-point contest, and 3-on-3 showcase.

Tonight’s contests and their top bets are highlighted in this article, as the 2024 WNBA All-Star Skills Competition offers a range of betting markets.

WNBA All-Star 2024: Skills Challenge Odds & Best Bets

All WNBA All-Star Game and skill competition odds are courtesy of BetOnline at 12:32 p.m. ET on Friday, July 19.

  • Erica Wheeler, Indiana Fever (+300)
  • Marina Mabrey, Chicago Sky (+325)
  • Sophie Cunningham, Phoenix Mercury (+325)
  • Allisha Gray, Atlanta Dream (+350)
  • Brittney Griner, Phoenix Mercury (+350)

The 2024 WNBA Skills Challenge is turning out to be a highly contested event. Erica Wheeler from the Indiana Fever is currently considered the top contender with odds of +300. However, the other four participants have a fair chance of winning, with odds ranging from +325 to +350, keeping the competition tight.

The Skill Challenge for this year is once again quite simple. The obstacle course will be taken on by each of the five women, assessing their passing, dribbling, and shooting abilities. The top two participants with the fastest times in Round 1 will progress to the finals, where they will race through the course once more to determine the ultimate winner.

With the odds being as close as they are, I’ll take Gray to win it all. The 29-year-old veteran is already doing a bit of everything with the Dream this season, averaging 15.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists with 1.7 threes made on a 36.0% success rate. She also just competed in the challenge last year and is the only one in this group who’s taken part in this contest outside of Brittney Griner.

That experience should pay off tonight.

WNBA All-Star 2024: 3-Point Contest Odds & Best Bets

  • Kayla McBride, Minnesota Lynx (+100)
  • Marina Mabrey, Chicago Sky (+350)
  • Stefanie Dolson, Washington Mystics (+375)
  • Jonquel Jones, New York Liberty (+475)
  • Alisha Gray, Atlanta Dream (+1000)

As always, the three-point contest is a thrilling highlight of the WNBA All-Star Weekend, and this year is no exception. Participants will aim to score with five shots from five different positions along the arc. Among the racks, one will hold moneyballs worth two points each, while two other racks will offer deep-range shots worth three points each. Following the initial round, the top two scorers will face off in a head-to-head battle to determine the ultimate victor.

Sabrina Ionescu won last year’s contest with a record-breaking 37-of-40 final-round score, however, she won’t be participating in the 2024 event.

On the other hand, Kayla McBride is heavily favored with odds of +100 to win the three-point contest, and it’s easy to understand why. She has previous experience in this event, having participated in 2018. Additionally, this season she has been performing exceptionally well, averaging a career-high of 3.0 three-pointers made with an impressive shooting percentage of 42.7%. Moreover, McBride has surpassed Caitlin Clark in terms of three-pointers made, hitting 76 shots compared to Clark’s 71, despite attempting 39 fewer shots.

Despite the strong competition in the field, McBride appears to be unrivaled. Marina Mabrey and Alisha Gray are also prioritizing the skills challenge, and Stefanie Dolson’s recent performance from beyond the arc has been lackluster, shooting only 33.3% on 3.0 attempts in her last four games before the break. Jonquel Jones has previously excelled in three-point competitions but her 26.1% success rate in her last seven WNBA games makes her less reliable.

To put it differently, it is advisable to also go with the preferred option.

WNBA All-Star 2024: 3-on-3 Showcase

The 3-on-3 showcase is a fresh addition to the WNBA All-Star weekend. Following their victorious performance in 3-on-3 basketball, the Team USA women’s team will go head-to-head against the U23 national team in a 10-minute showdown. The goal of this contest is to score 21 points within the given time, but if that target is not reached, the team with the highest points at the final buzzer will emerge as the winner.

Unfortunately, there are no odds available for the matchup. However, let’s take a look at the rosters of both teams.

Team USA Women’s 3-on-3 Roster

  • Cierra Burdick, Valencia Basket
  • Dearica Hamby, Los Angeles Sparks
  • Rhyne Howard, Atlanta Dream
  • Hailey Van Lith, TCU

USA U23 Women’s 3-on-3 Roster

  • Christina Dalce, Maryland
  • Morgan Maly, Creighton
  • Cotie McMahon, Ohio State
  • Lucy Olsen, Iowa
  • Mikaylah Williams, LSU
  • Serah Williams, Wisconsin

Even though the U23 team has promise, you can’t go against the reigning gold medalists here. Team USA will put on a show as they overcome their younger counterparts.
