Following a sluggish beginning to the season, the Seattle Mariners have now claimed the top spot in the AL West. A crucial factor in their ascent has been their ability to excel in tightly contested matches. Their most recent hard-fought victory positions them favorably to achieve a clean sweep against the Houston Astros this afternoon (4:10 pm ET, ESPN+).
The first three games of the series between Houston (24-32) and Seattle (31-26) have been close, low-scoring contests. After winning 3-2 on Monday and 4-2 on Tuesday, the Mariners walked it off with a 2-1 win in Wednesday’s matchup, with J.P. Crawford’s sac fly in the 10th plating the decisive run.
Can Houston salvage something from this series before returning home to host the Minnesota Twins, or will Seattle secure their fifth consecutive win of the season?

Pitching Matchup for Astros vs Mariners
- Spencer Arrighetti, a right-handed pitcher for the Houston Astros, has made 8 starts this season with a record of 2 wins and 5 losses, and an earned run average (ERA) of 6.93.
- Logan Gilbert, a right-handed pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, has made 11 starts with a record of 3 wins and 2 losses, maintaining an ERA of 3.06.
Houston Astros vs Seattle Mariners Betting Analysis
In the series finale, the Astros will have to contend with Gilbert, following their encounters with Bryce Miller (6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K), Luis Castillo (6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, BB, 6 K), and George Kirby (6 IP, 6 H, R, 0 BB, 8 K).
On May 4, the 27-year-old ace performed exceptionally well, pitching eight scoreless innings, giving up only two hits and four walks, while striking out six batters in a 5-0 victory for the Mariners in Houston.
Gilbert’s earned run average (ERA) is slightly increased due to his recent performance in Minnesota, where he conceded eight runs in four innings. Although it was a challenging outcome, Gilbert has demonstrated exceptional performance as a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) during the initial two months of the season. He has successfully pitched six or more innings while allowing three runs or less on nine occasions, including all four of his home games.
His counterpart has performed well in several games this season, but only when playing at Minute Maid Park. In contrast, Arrighetti has struggled on the road, with a high ERA of 10.26 in his four away starts. He has allowed a total of 27 hits, 19 earned runs, and 11 walks in just 16.2 innings. As expected, the Astros have been defeated in all four of these games.
The situation here doesn’t look optimistic either. The Mariners currently have a significant advantage on the mound and are superior overall. They have the home-field advantage to secure a complete victory and score runs against Arrighetti, especially after already scoring nine runs in the previous three games.
