Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets: Odds, Predictions, & Best Bets (7/25)

Welcome back, everyone! I have just returned from a wonderful family vacation down South and I’m feeling rejuvenated. It’s time to make some serious money at the sportsbooks, starting with today’s rather underwhelming eight game MLB Slate. But hey, let’s not dwell on that. Today, we’re heading to Queens for an exciting matchup between two NL East rivals. The Atlanta Braves are making their way up the coast to take on the New York Mets in what promises to be an intense four game series.

Classic NL East Rivalry

The teams have split the regular season series evenly, winning three games each. This weekend, four more games will be played at Citi Field. During their last meeting in New York, the Braves managed to win two out of three games against the Mets. However, the Mets have been in better form lately.

In the NL East, the Braves currently hold a 1.5 game lead over the Mets for 2nd place. Although Atlanta is trailing the Phillies by 9 games for the top spot, their overall record stands at 54-46. However, their performance on the road has been lackluster with a record of 24-25, and they have struggled since the All-Star Break, losing 4 consecutive games. This game marks the beginning of a 7 game road trip for the Braves, and it could be a crucial opportunity for them to bounce back. On the other hand, the Mets have been gaining momentum and have secured a Wild Card spot. Despite being 3rd in their division, they have the 5th best record in the MLB. Following the break, they have won 4 out of their last 6 games. The Mets have a balanced home record of 26-26 this year and have been performing exceptionally well since July 6th, with a record of 11-4. It can be argued that they are currently hitting their peak at the right time.

To gain a better understanding of today’s matchup, let’s delve into the details of the starting pitchers and examine the associated betting odds.

Low Total with Two Starting Studs

Chris Sale has emerged victorious in three consecutive starts, out of his last six, he has triumphed in five.

Chris Sale has been an outstanding performer in the Braves rotation, despite their recent four-game losing streak since the All-Star Break. He currently holds the top spot in the league for most wins, with three consecutive victories under his belt. It is worth noting that he has not faced the Mets this season. Nevertheless, our total score remains exceptionally low at 7, even with the possibility of it being increased. Sale has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill, particularly in his most recent starts, where he has won five out of his last six games. Additionally, he boasts an impressive 2.05 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP during this period.

It will be intriguing to see if Sale can maintain his performance, particularly when considering the Mets’ performance at Citi Field. As a team, New York has a batting average of .251 this season, but it drops to .234 when playing at home. Not the best record. However, the Mets excel at facing left-handed pitchers, with their batters hitting .264 against LHP this season, ranking 5th in the MLB. Since it’s the first time they will be facing Sale this year, their hitters may struggle due to their lack of familiarity with his pitching. Moreover, this game marks the Mets’ first home game since the break, and their performance tends to decline significantly when playing in Queens. Therefore, this could be a favorable opportunity to bet against them.

But Severino Has Been Great?

Luis Severino had an impressive performance against the Braves back in May when he pitched at home. However, it has been a significant amount of time since that game. In that particular matchup, he pitched for 5 innings and only allowed 2 runs, 4 hits, and a home run. He also walked 3 batters and struck out 4. Even though he didn’t personally get the win, the Mets ultimately emerged victorious. Since then, Severino has had a solid record of 5 wins and 1 loss in 11 starts. He is currently on a streak of two consecutive wins, where he only allowed a combined total of 2 runs on 6 hits during 12.1 innings of play. Nevertheless, it can be argued that the Braves hitters will present a much tougher challenge for him.

Severino’s performances are typically stronger when he pitches at home, and statistics show that the Braves’ batting is not as threatening when playing away or against right-handed pitchers. However, there is a gut feeling that the Braves will come out on top tonight.

Despite the statistics favoring New York’s victory in this game, I’ll take a contrary stance tonight. While New York is the superior team in terms of various splits and has been performing exceptionally well lately, I believe the key factor is that they haven’t faced Sale yet this year. In his last two losses, Sale has only allowed a total of 3 earned runs on 9 hits in 14 innings. The Braves lost those games 1-0 against the White Sox and 2-1 against Washington, highlighting the issue of insufficient run support rather than Sale’s performance.

I don’t anticipate any issues tonight because the Braves are up against Severino, whom they have faced before. According to batters-box.com (remember the hyphen), the Braves have one exceptional hitter, two more with favorable matchups, and three others who are above average when facing Severino. Therefore, I will reluctantly support the Braves and trust that they will perform well with their bats on the road tonight.
