NASCAR Cup Series Brickyard 400 Predictions & Picks: Will the #24 Bag Another Brickyard Win?

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is renowned for its annual open-wheel race held on Memorial Day weekend. However, today’s focus shifts to stock cars as the Brickyard 400 marks the 30th anniversary of the NASCAR Cup Series debut on this track (2:30 pm ET, NBC).

The Cup Series race at IMS, known as the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard, took place on the road course between 2021 and 2023.

This year, they are back on the oval, partying like it’s 1994 for the 22nd race of the Cup Series season.

As the series approaches a brief hiatus for the Olympics, there are only two races left. Meanwhile, the regular season nears its end, with just five races remaining, and a fresh face has taken over the lead in the points standings.

Chase Elliott has taken the lead in the regular season championship race by gaining an additional 14 points during the Great American Getaway 400, surpassing his teammate Kyle Larson from Hendrick Motorsports.

NASCAR Cup Series Points Standings (Through 21 of 26 Regular Season Races)

  • Chase Elliott – 703
  • Kyle Larson – 700
  • Tyler Reddick – 688
  • Denny Hamlin – 683
  • William Byron – 646
  • Martin Truex Jr. – 640
  • Ryan Blaney – 627
  • Christopher Bell – 616
  • Brad Keselowski – 599
  • Alex Bowman – 596
  • Ty Gibbs – 570
  • Chris Buescher – 547
  • Ross Chastain – 530
  • Joey Logano – 522
  • Bubba Wallace – 503
  • Chase Briscoe – 455
  • Daniel Suarez – 431
  • Kyle Busch – 428
  • Austin Cindric – 408
  • Todd Gilliland – 403

There could be some unexpected turns in the race for the regular season championship this afternoon. Reddick will take the pole position, while Hamlin will join him in the front row. Elliott will start in third, followed by Larson in fifth. The allocation of stage points might play a vital role in determining the standings at the end of the race.

Although the playoff positions have been secured by several drivers, there are still available spots to be claimed. Today’s race holds great importance for Ty Gibbs, who will begin in the sixth position, as well as Michael McDowell, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and John Hunter Nemechek. Despite currently being outside the playoff picture, they have the opportunity to make significant strides as they start in the front five rows.

Of those three drivers, McDowell, who will start eighth, has the most favorable odds to win. But it’s Reddick who sits atop the Brickyard 400 winner odds at BetOnline, ahead of Hamlin, Larson, Elliott, and Byron, who is looking to make some interesting history today.

Brickyard 400 Predictions & Picks

  • Austin Dillon to finish in the top 10 (+350 at BetOnline and Bovada): I don’t pick Dillon often, and he has only two top-10 finishes this season. But these are the kinds of races where interesting things can happen, and he is one of the drivers I like picking for races like these because of his level of experience. He will start 11th, and if he can stay out of trouble, I think he can have one of his best finishes of the season.
  • Tyler Reddick is expected to finish in the top five (-133 at Bovada). While polesitters have a low chance of winning, Reddick’s recent performance with six top-six finishes in his last eight races suggests he is on a great run. Even if he doesn’t secure a victory, I anticipate that he will continue to achieve strong finishes.
  • I’m putting my money on William Byron to win Group B (Reddick +120, Elliott +250, Byron +300, Truex +600 at Bovada) and also win the race. Just like Jeff Gordon, who won the inaugural Brickyard 400 in 1994 and then won it again in 2004 and 2014, Byron has the potential to make a comeback. Although he didn’t come through as my winner pick last week, I’m staying optimistic and choosing him as my winner pick for this week’s race.
