Can Canada Compete with #1 in the World?
Throughout the Copa America, Alphonso Davies will lead the Canadian team as their captain.
Currently, Canada holds the 49th position in the global rankings, whereas Argentina holds the top spot. Argentina has recently secured victories in the 2022 World Cup Championship and the 2021 Copa America Championship. As Messi approaches the end of his international soccer career, he aims to accumulate as many accolades as he can. It is highly likely that Argentina will dominate this group, making this particular game one where they should easily prevail.
Argentina’s renowned stars are aging, but there is a plethora of young talent waiting to take their place. While Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, and Nicholas Otamendi are all 36 years old, Alejandro Garnacho, a 19-year-old, secured the winning goal in the FA Cup Final for Manchester United and is prepared to enhance his 5 international caps. Julian Alvarez, a 24-year-old from Manchester City, and Lautaro Martinez, a brilliant 26-year-old playing for Inter Milan, add strength to the team. From attack to defense, this team is unquestionably the most well-rounded in the tournament. Can Canada pose a threat against them?
Contrary to Argentina, where the English Premier League dominates the sidelines, Canada has a stronger presence from the MLS, although there are a few exceptions. Alphonso Davies plays for Bayern Munich, Stephen Eustáquio represents Porto, and Jonathan David is part of LOSC Lille. In my humble opinion, Canada is at a significant disadvantage. While their defense may hold up well, they will struggle to cope with the formidable Argentine attack.
Canada appears to be primarily focused on playing defensive and countering Messi’s offensive strategies. If you’ve ever wagered on soccer with me before, you’re likely aware of my preferred betting approach, and tonight, I am once again placing my bet on the under.

I am concerned that they may become too offensive and score 3 goals on their own. I am only risking a small amount to potentially win a smaller amount, but I understand that we are paying for the possibility of a tie and I am comfortable with that.
Canada will start the game defensively, aiming to prevent Argentina from scoring. They might succeed in keeping Argentina at bay for the first half. However, Argentina is likely to eventually break through Canada’s defense and score at least one, possibly two goals. Argentina has the potential to control 67% of the possession in this match, which will put significant pressure on the Canadian defenders. This is the only Copa America match tonight, so all attention is on Messi and Argentina. I believe they will demonstrate their readiness to compete for their second consecutive Copa America title and their third consecutive international trophy.
