Against all expectations, including my own, the Mavericks managed to secure an astonishing victory in Game 4 just when it seemed like they were out of the running. After suffering three consecutive losses at the start of the series, hope had hit rock bottom. Now, only time would reveal if this unexpected outcome was a mere stroke of luck or the beginning of an impressive comeback.

However, it is difficult to fathom the Celtics performing as poorly as they did on Friday. Despite the Mavericks’ impressive shooting percentages of 50.5% from the field and 40.5% from beyond the arc in Game 4, the Celtics only managed success rates of 36.3% and 34.1% in those categories, respectively. Additionally, Boston’s struggles were exacerbated by their mere 35 first-half points, while Dallas finished with a solid 61 points.

In addition to being outrebounded 52-31, Joe Mazzulla’s team, the Celtics, encountered difficulties in maintaining control of the ball, which led to 14 turnovers. These turnovers ultimately benefitted the Mavs as they were able to score 17 points from them.

Dallas achieved a seldom-seen triumph as they had not defeated the Celtics since March 2022 and had suffered seven consecutive losses against them before finally securing the much-needed Game 4 victory.
