The Mavericks secured a vital 108-105 win in Game 1 after an intense and closely-fought battle. Luka Doncic showcased his usual brilliance, contributing 33 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving delivered a strong performance with 30 points, shooting at an impressive 52.2%.

Will Dallas be able to repeat their success and take a 2-0 lead? Alternatively, can Minnesota figure out a way to tie the series before it becomes too late?

In tonight’s highly anticipated match between the Mavericks and Timberwolves, there are plenty of NBA betting prospects to explore. Let me shed light on a few of them as we delve into my predictions and top bets for Game 2.

Mavericks vs Timberwolves Game 2 Predictions & NBA Picks Today (5/24)

Although the Timberwolves held a lead of up to nine points in Game 1, they were unable to secure the victory. However, they cannot afford to linger on the defeat as they need to maintain their focus in order to have a chance at winning Game 2 tonight.

Minnesota’s shooting, particularly in close range, is an area that needs improvement. Despite a 36.7% shooting from beyond the arc in Game 1, the Timberwolves struggled with a 42.7% field goal percentage overall. The Mavericks dominated in the paint, outscoring Minnesota 62-38 and also winning the rebounding battle 48-40.

Improving their free-throw success rate would be beneficial for the Timberwolves. They only made 11 out of 18 attempts (61.1%) on Wednesday, so reducing the number of missed shots would have likely resulted in a win.

Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves will be under scrutiny for their need to bounce back. In contrast to Doncic and Irving’s impressive total of 63 points, Edwards and Towns managed to contribute only 35 points with shooting splits of .333/.333/1.000.

Anthony Edwards (Karl-Anthony Towns) must be better for the Timberwolves in Game 2.

The Mavericks’ win could potentially be considered a stroke of luck. Historically, they have struggled to secure victories at Target Center, as evidenced by their 2-6 record in their last eight visits to Minneapolis. During that period, Dallas only managed to win games by an average of four points, while suffering losses by an average margin of 15.7 points.

Since March 3, the Timberwolves have only experienced consecutive home losses once. Out of the 17 home games they have played during this period, they have managed to win 4 out of 5 games following a loss.

At the end of the day, I’m taking the Timberwolves to even things up tonight. This series feels like one that’s destined to go seven games, meaning the T-wolves have to win at home at some point. Again, they know how to bounce back from adversity at Target Center, so look for Chris Finch’s team to find a way to beat the Mavericks.

Having said that, I will be sticking with the Mavs on the spread. Minnesota was the four-point favorite in Game 1 and wound up losing by three points. The Timberwolves are also 2-4 ATS in their last six games and 3-7 ATS in their 10 previous outings on a Friday, whereas the Mavericks are 5-1 ATS in their last six road outings.

While I anticipate the Timberwolves to emerge victorious, I won’t be taken aback if the Mavericks manage to narrow the gap or cause an upset once again.

Throughout the 2023-24 postseason, Reid has demonstrated consistent performance, maintaining an average of 10.8 points across 12 games. Notably, he has exceeded the predicted outcome on seven occasions, with his most recent achievement being a 15-point contribution on Wednesday. Remarkably, analyzing his performance over the past 36 games, including the regular season, the 24-year-old center has surpassed the predicted outcome 25 times while maintaining an average of 14.8 points per game on shooting splits of .469/.408/.727.

I have high expectations for Reid tonight, considering his impressive track record of 6-2 in his last eight games against the Mavericks.
