2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Odds & Favorites: Is Larson Still the Man to Beat?

Ryan Blaney emerged victorious in the Coca-Cola 600 last year, propelling him to clinch his inaugural NASCAR Cup Series championship. Following suit, Kyle Larson replicated this achievement in 2021, where his triumph in the Charlotte race contributed to his impressive tally of ten wins throughout the season.

Can Christopher Bell replicate his success this year? The 2024 Coca-Cola 600 race had to be halted due to bad weather, and eventually ended after completing 249 laps out of 400. Bell emerged as the fortunate winner, holding a lead over Brad Keselowski and William Byron when the red flag was raised.

After securing a victory in the Shriners Children’s 500 back in March, Bell had already positioned himself with one foot in the playoffs. Now, with his recent triumph at Charlotte Motor Speedway, he has solidified his position with both feet in, ensuring his presence in the field of 16 for the fourth consecutive season.

Bell has been a contender in the Championship 4 for the past two years, securing a third-place finish in 2022 and placing fourth in the previous year. The question now arises: will 2024 be the year he finally emerges as the ultimate champion? With his victory at Phoenix Raceway in March, his sights are set on achieving even greater triumph on November 10.

Larson, who secured a second-place finish in the previous season’s Championship 4 alongside Blaney, will require special permission if he aims to be part of the competition once more this year.

Larson aimed to participate in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600, but the commencement of the Indy race was postponed due to rain, causing a delay of more than four hours. Unfortunately, Larson stayed for the delayed race, which resulted in him missing the start, and ultimately, the entirety of the Coca-Cola 600. Consequently, Larson will require a waiver in order to qualify for this season’s NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. This is due to the rule that mandates drivers to participate in all 26 regular season races to be eligible for the playoffs.

According to the most recent NASCAR Cup Series championship odds at BetOnline, Larson continues to be favored for this season’s title, despite missing the Coca-Cola 600 race and dropping out of the lead in the points standings. He was previously ahead of Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin. The waiver situation is now a factor in determining the favorite for the championship.

NASCAR Cup Series Championship Favorites

Kyle Larson (+400)

Considering the attention Larson’s double dip attempt garnered, it is highly unlikely that NASCAR will pose any obstacles when a waiver is sought. Therefore, we can confidently anticipate Larson being given the opportunity to join the esteemed group of drivers who have secured multiple NASCAR Cup Series championship victories.

Denny Hamlin (+500)

Despite his many career achievements, Hamlin is still considered one of the top drivers who has yet to secure a NASCAR Cup Series championship. Could this be the year when his long string of disappointments finally comes to an end?

William Byron (+500)

Byron dominated the Cup Series in the previous season, claiming the most wins. He continues to impress this season, securing an impressive three victories in the first 14 races. Although he faced disappointment in 2023 when he narrowly missed out on the championship title after starting the race from pole position, could this year be different? Will he finally bring the coveted title home?

Christopher Bell (+800)

After a commendable display in the 2022 Cup Series championship playoffs, Bell continued his impressive streak in the 2023 Cup Series championship playoffs. However, his unfortunate exit in last year’s Phoenix finale cut his day short.

Chase Elliott (+900)

In the previous year, the champion of the 2020 Cup Series faced setbacks with injuries and suspensions, preventing them from winning any races throughout the season or qualifying for the playoffs based on points. However, this year, Elliott has made a triumphant comeback by winning at Texas Motor Speedway and reclaiming a significant spot in the championship race. Can the beloved driver of the Cup Series secure his second title when November arrives?
