The 2023-24 NBA Finals begin on Thursday, pitting the Dallas Mavericks against the Boston Celtics to decide this year’s championship. Not only is the upcoming series loaded with star power but it’s also laced with a plethora of betting opportunities — especially when it comes to prop markers.

For those who are new to betting, a prop is short for “proposition bet.” Rather than reflecting the outcome of a game like the spread or the total, a prop bet tends to be related to a specific player’s performance. For example, projecting Luka Doncic to score at least 30 points in Game 1 or taking the Celtics to win two of the first three games are examples of prop bets.

With all of the talent involved in this series, NBA bettors should be ready for some exciting props in the next few weeks. While figuring out where to begin can be tough, Betting News is here to help make that journey easier.

Take a glimpse at the top three prop bets for the Mavericks vs. Celtics series in the 2023-24 NBA Finals.

NBA Finals 2024: 3 Must-Bet Mavericks vs Celtics Series Props

All Mavericks vs. Celtics NBA Finals 2024 prop odds are courtesy of BetOnline as of Tuesday, June 4 at 9:53 a.m. ET.

1. Game 1/Series Parlay — Boston Celtics (-135)

When it comes to the first NBA Finals prop I like, I can’t help but take the Boston Celtics to win both Game 1 and the series at -135 odds.

No matter the duration of their first three series, all of them started and concluded with a Celtics triumph. In the current postseason up until 2023-24, Boston has a perfect record of 3-0 in Game 1s, outscoring their adversaries by an average of 16.7 points in those encounters. Remarkably, Joe Mazzulla’s team even managed to secure victory with a margin of at least 20 points in two of those games.

The reality is that the Celtics have a significant edge by starting every series at TD Garden. In a total of 49 home games, including both regular season and playoffs, the Celtics have an outstanding record of 43 wins and 6 losses, achieving an impressive success rate of 87.6%. On the other hand, the Mavericks have a winning percentage of 64.0% when playing away from home.

Dallas will need to win multiple games in Boston to have a chance at winning this series, but that won’t be an easy task. The Celtics have only lost twice at home during the playoffs, with their most recent defeat occurring on May 9. Making matters worse, Dallas has only won two out of their last eight games at TD Garden.

By the end of the day, my strong conviction is that the Celtics will effectively utilize their home-court advantage throughout this series, ultimately leading them to clinch the championship triumph.

2. Most Total 3’s in Series — Luka Doncic (-110)

Basketball enthusiasts can wager on a variety of player props during the NBA Finals, including who’ll lead the series in threes made. While both sides feature their fair share of perimeter savants, I’m taking Luka Doncic (-110) to score the most three-pointers in the Finals.

Doncic poses a danger no matter where he positions himself on the court, including the three-point line. In his 17 playoff games, the five-time NBA All-Star has been making an average of 3.4 three-pointers out of 9.8 attempts, resulting in a success rate of 34.3%. However, it should be noted that the initially low percentage was primarily due to a sluggish start during the postseason. Nevertheless, Doncic has recently turned things around and demonstrated significant improvement. In his last seven games, he has been averaging 4.6 successful three-pointers with a shooting accuracy of 45.7%.

Derrick White (+275) poses as Doncic’s primary rival for this proposition. White is also averaging 3.4 three-pointers made per game. Nevertheless, unlike Doncic, White’s performance is deteriorating, evident in his average of 2.5 three-pointers with a 32.3% success rate in his previous eight games.

Despite the Celtics’ strong defense in the NBA, Doncic has the ability to create opportunities and make things happen. It’s simply his nature. He will seize any chances presented to him from the outside, making him the most productive shooter in this series.

3. Series Spread — Celtics -1.5 Games (-105)

NBA bettors can even get in on some series spread action. When it comes to this prop market, I like the idea of the Celtics winning this series by over 1.5 games (-105).

While the Mavericks have performed exceptionally well in the initial three rounds, the NBA Finals present a unique challenge. It’s been more than ten years since the franchise last contended for a championship, whereas the Celtics were in the same position merely two years ago. This contrast in experience grants Boston a significant edge, particularly as they have firsthand knowledge of the disappointment of losing.

The Celtics covering the spread is a flexible bet that offers various outcomes. If they win in four, five, or six games, this bet will be a successful one. The only scenarios where this bet wouldn’t work are if the Celtics win in seven games or if the Mavericks win the series. Given that most of Boston’s players have experience in high-pressure situations like this, it’s understandable why this proposition bet is appealing.

The Celtics are already being favored by BetOnline to win this series in five games (+340), which further validates this proposition. As the series progresses, it will become increasingly challenging for the Mavericks to stay competitive, so it is wise to join the Boston bandwagon sooner rather than later.
