The NBA season might have concluded at the Target Center in Minneapolis last night, but the WNBA is just getting started. This afternoon, Napheesa Collier and the Lynx are set to host the New York Liberty, led by former UConn teammate Breanna Stewart, in an exciting matchup (1:00 pm ET, CBS).
After an unexpected defeat on Thursday, the Liberty (4-1) are eager to bounce back. Despite being heavily favored with a home advantage against the Chicago Sky, led by Angel Reese, they suffered a surprising 90-81 loss.
The Lynx (2-1) faced their first defeat of the season on Thursday, although it was not as significant as New York’s loss. During their away game against the Connecticut Sun, they had ample opportunities to secure a victory and even held a five-point lead in overtime. However, the hosts managed to clinch an 83-82 win with two crucial free throws towards the end.
In the previous season, the Liberty and Lynx faced off three times, with the road team emerging victorious in each matchup. The question now is whether history will repeat itself this afternoon. Although New York is heavily favored, Minnesota has showcased an impressive performance this season.

New York Liberty vs Minnesota Lynx Betting Analysis
Should we analyze New York’s loss to Chicago for any underlying meaning?
During a lengthy season, it is inevitable to experience off nights and unexpected outcomes. However, the Liberty’s offensive performance fell short as they struggled with a shooting percentage of only 43.5%. Stewart managed to make only 5 of her 12 field goal attempts and converted only 2 of her 6 three-point shots. Similarly, Sabrina Ionescu had a challenging night, making just 8 of her 20 field goal attempts and only 2 of her 8 three-point attempts.
The Liberty’s defense struggled as they gave up 11 offensive rebounds and faced 75 shot attempts from the Sky. New York’s opponents successfully made 46.7% of those shots, with 36.8% coming from three-point range. These percentages mark the lowest performance of the season for the Liberty.
The matchup later today could pose a greater challenge for New York. Despite their loss at Connecticut on Thursday, it is worth mentioning that Minnesota almost secured a victory at the Mohegan Sun Arena. They managed to come close to winning, despite only making 4 of 21 (19.0%) three-pointers and having Alanna Smith foul out with 2 minutes and 43 seconds remaining in regulation, limiting her playing time to just 23 minutes.
The Lynx, previously known for their weak defense in the WNBA last season, have shown promising results in the early stages of this season. It remains to be seen whether they can sustain this performance throughout the entire season. Regardless, the Liberty will face a challenging game today at the Target Center, even if they manage to secure a victory.
