The 2024 Stanley Cup Final shifts to Rogers Place on Thursday when the Florida Panthers take on the Edmonton Oilers in a pivotal Game 3 showdown at 8 p.m. ET.

On Monday, the Panthers dominated the Oilers with a resounding 4-1 victory, securing a strong 2-0 series advantage. Despite Edmonton initially taking a 1-0 lead, Florida seized control in the second period, scoring four consecutive goals. Evan Rodrigues contributed significantly with two of those goals, further solidifying the Eastern champions’ commanding performance.

Can Florida sustain its momentum away from home? Or will Edmonton move closer to tying the series?

Panthers vs Oilers NHL Game 3 Predictions & Pick (6/13)

While tonight’s showdown isn’t a do-or-die scenario, the Oilers can’t take the risk that comes with going down 0-3 against the Panthers. Only four NHL teams have ever come back in a playoff series after losing the first three games and nobody has done it since the Los Angeles Kings pulled off the feat 10 years ago.

In order for the Oilers to initiate their comeback, they need to find a way to reignite their offense. Despite possessing a surplus of offensive skills with players like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers have only managed to score one goal throughout this series, which occurred in the first period of Game 2.

Sergei Bobrovsky has been unstoppable in the current series, saving 39 out of 40 shots (.975). Throughout the 2023-24 postseason, the Russian goalie for Florida has been impenetrable, recording a save percentage of .913 or higher in nine of his last ten games, including the last four.

The Oilers’ goaltending has been far from dependable. While Stuart Skinner showed promise earlier in the playoffs, his performance in this series has dropped to a save percentage of .889.

Sergei Bobrovsky is a huge reason why the Panthers are up 2-0.

The Oilers have been facing difficulties on special teams, which adds to their struggles. So far, they have been unable to score on any of their seven power-play chances, as the Panthers have effectively neutralized their key players. Although Florida’s power play hasn’t been exceptional either, they did manage to score on one of their six opportunities in Game 2.

Despite the series moving to Edmonton, it is uncertain whether this will truly benefit the Oilers. Their recent record against the Panthers at home has not been promising, with a 3-6 record in their last nine games and being outscored 20-7 in the last three matches.

Considering how they notched a 5-1 win at Rogers Place back in December, I could see the Panthers winning tonight. The Oilers won’t go down without a fight and having the home crowd on their side should provide a boost, but I can’t bring myself to trust them after scoring one goal through two games.

I also recommend the Under on the 5.5-goal total. The Under is both 5-0 in Florida’s last five games and 4-1 in Edmonton’s five previous outings. In fact, the Under is now 6-3 in the last nine Panthers-Oilers matchups, which averaged 5.9 total goals per game.

Don’t anticipate a high-scoring Game 3 in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, as there have been only eight goals scored in the first two games.

Despite not being one of the prominent figures in the series, Rodrigues is being underestimated by oddsmakers in this proposition. The 30-year-old forward has accumulated 11 points in 19 playoff games and has scored five points in his most recent six appearances. In his last three games, he has successfully surpassed the predicted outcome and even achieved a two-goal performance on Monday.

Given the Oilers’ emphasis on neutralizing the Panthers’ key choices, players such as Rodrigues find themselves with more advantageous matchups. Considering this, it would be wise to place a bet or two on this proposition.
