The game tonight holds great importance for the AL East standings. The Yankees, currently leading the division, face a significant challenge from the Orioles, who are just 1.5 games behind despite playing three fewer games.
It goes without saying that the standings may undergo a significant change once this series concludes.
The AL East rivals clashed in a four-game series at Camden Yards in late April. The Orioles emerged victorious in three of those games, outscoring the Yankees 13-6 overall and limiting them to two or fewer runs in each matchup. Despite having the home-field advantage now, the Yankees have a record of 4-6 in their previous ten home games against Baltimore, losing four of the last six.
Given their recent performance, the Orioles should not be underestimated. In addition to winning 8 out of their last 10 games, they have also secured consecutive victories over the NL leaders.
The Orioles have been racking up victories left and right recently.
Despite the Yankees’ greatness, it’s difficult to overlook the fact that they have lost three out of their last four games, and each defeat was against a team with a winning percentage below .500.
I am intrigued to see if the Yankees can generate any offense against Orioles right-handed pitcher Albert Suarez. Since rejoining the starting rotation in late May, the 34-year-old experienced player has been exceptional. He boasts an impressive record of 1 win and 0 losses, accompanied by an outstanding 1.40 ERA. In his last 19 1/3 innings, Suarez has managed to strike out 16 batters while only allowing 15 hits.
In the meantime, New York is relying on Nestor Cortes, who has not secured a victory in a start since May 22. Despite his less than impressive 4.50 ERA in his past four starts, the former MLB All-Star has not received significant backing from the Yankees. They were limited to scoring just three runs in each of those games.
It is important to mention that Cortes has given up a total of eight earned runs and two home runs in his past two starts against the Orioles, while allowing 13 hits.
Which version of Nestor Cortes will show up today?
Even though the Yankees are the home team, I’m going with the Orioles today. Baltimore is playing confidently after defeating some of the better MLB teams and has already proven that it can beat New York. After Cortes was lit up by Baltimore less than two months ago, I feel confident about an O’s upset tonight.
With that being said, let’s stick with the Orioles moneyline in the Bronx.
