Sky vs Fever Prediction & Picks (6/16): Collegiate Foes Collide in Indianapolis

The Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever will face off at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sunday (12:00 pm ET, CBS), marking the second time this season that Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, Caitlin Clark, and Aliyah Boston will play together on the court.

Two weeks ago in Indianapolis, the outcome of the game between the two teams was determined by a missed free throw from Chicago’s Marina Mabrey in the final seconds. Indiana managed to secure a narrow 71-70 victory. During regulation time, with only 6.1 seconds remaining, Mabrey had an opportunity to even the score but unfortunately missed her first free throw, ultimately proving to be the game-changing moment.

The Fever (4-10) secured their second victory of the season, triumphing over both the Mystics and Dream in subsequent matches. Now, as they enter this highly anticipated showdown, they aim to achieve consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Although the Fever are beginning to accumulate wins, the Sky (4-8) have experienced a three-game losing streak and have lost seven of their last nine games since earning two wins in their first three games of the season.

A victory for both Chicago and Indiana would carry significant weight, given their current struggles and close positions in the WNBA standings. This matchup could prove to be crucial in determining the playoff picture, considering the tight competition among teams in the lower half. Despite their combined 8-18 record, the presence of talented individual players in this game is likely to attract significant attention.

Chicago Sky vs Indiana Fever Betting Analysis

Reese, Clark, Boston, and Cardoso – these players from both teams in South Carolina are the reason why this WNBA game might be highly anticipated, despite being scheduled for a Sunday at noon ET and involving two of the league’s less prominent teams.

None of the quartet players stood out offensively in the initial game. Chennedy Carter, who gained attention for a rough foul on Clark, led the Sky with 19 points and six assists. On the other hand, Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 18 points.

  • Angel Reese recorded 8 points, shooting 2 out of 9 from the field and 4 out of 6 from the free-throw line. Additionally, she grabbed 13 rebounds.
  • Kamilla Cardoso had a solid performance, scoring 11 points on 5 of 7 field goals and 1 of 2 free throws. She also grabbed six rebounds.
  • Caitlin Clark contributed 11 points (shooting 4 of 11 from the field, 2 of 9 from beyond the arc, and making all 1 free throw), along with eight rebounds and six assists.
  • Aliyah Boston contributed 10 points (4 out of 14 field goals, 0 out of 1 three-pointers, and 2 out of 3 free throws), along with eight rebounds and four blocks.

Last Friday, Clark achieved a season high of 30 points during a victorious game against the Mystics. However, this exceptional performance stands apart from her other games this month. Throughout the remaining four games in June, Clark’s average is 7.3 PPG, with a shooting percentage of 27.5% from the field and 25.9% from three-point range.

However, despite the recent struggles of the #1 overall pick in this year’s draft against the Atlanta Dream, Boston, last year’s #1 pick delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing her skills with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Her contribution played a crucial role in the Fever’s 91-84 victory on Thursday, marking the highlight of her WNBA career thus far.

Is Indiana finally finding their footing? It might be too early to say, but the Fever have been performing exceptionally well against teams of similar caliber.

Considering the current standings, the Sky’s position suggests a favorable outcome for the Fever in this game. It is important to acknowledge that the Sky have performed better when playing away from home, with a record of 3-3 on the road compared to 1-5 at home. Additionally, despite their three road victories, they narrowly lost by one point in Indiana, by two points in Washington (in their most recent match), and by eight points in Dallas, despite leading with only three minutes left in the season opener.

I believe Indiana is likely to win their fourth game out of six, although Chicago will put up a strong fight once again. If the point difference was larger, I would bet on the Sky to cover. However, given the current situation, I am not favoring either side and instead focusing on the moneyline and total points. Although the first matchup was low-scoring, I anticipate more points being scored this time. The Sky typically average 80.3 points per game on the road, while the Fever also average the same number at home. Additionally, the Fever recently had their best offensive performance of the season.
